Now that spoilers for Resident Evil: Requiem are appearing online, the director of Resident Evil 2, Hideki Kamiya, has strongly condemned the leaks and those sharing them. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the game, and having the story ruined just before release would be incredibly disappointing.

Okay, so Resident Evil Requiem is officially coming out on February 27th for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. But things got a little messy – physical copies shipped out early last week! That means spoilers are everywhere online. If you’re like me and want to go in completely blind, seriously avoid social media until after the launch. The whole story is out there, even though Capcom asked everyone to hold off on sharing. It’s been five years since the last main Resident Evil game, and finding out what happens through a random post would just be a total letdown, you know?

Former Resident Evil Director Says Spoiling Requiem ‘Deserves a Thousand Deaths’

Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2, recently expressed strong disapproval on X (formerly Twitter) regarding leaks of game information. In a translated post, he criticized those who share leaked content, stating they disregard the excitement of players and the hard work of the development team. He called the act “despicable” and wished a harsh fate upon those responsible, hoping they would never be able to enjoy games again. Kamiya noted that similar leaks happened with the original Resident Evil 2 as well.

Even though it’s been over twenty years since Hideki Kamiya worked on a Resident Evil game, he clearly cares deeply about this problem. While he’s known for being direct online, his frustration with recent leaks is understandable. He notes that Resident Evil 2 was leaked before its 1998 release, and with the internet becoming a breeding ground for spoilers, the issue has only worsened. Game leaks feel almost inevitable now, forcing players to actively avoid spoilers to preserve the original experience of playing a game for the first time.

It’s a despicable act that destroys the happiness of everyone, and deserves a thousand deaths.

Hideki Kamiya now runs his own studio, Clovers, and they’re collaborating with Capcom on the highly anticipated sequel to Okami, which was announced at The Game Awards 2024. Fans have been waiting a long time for a new Okami game, so hopefully, details will stay under wraps this time around.

Recently, details about Capcom’s future plans for the Resident Evil series were leaked online, in addition to information about Resident Evil Requiem. These leaks suggest several exciting remakes are in development, and even a potential new Resident Evil 10 game could be released as early as 2029 – a faster pace than the five years between RE Village and Requiem. If the leaks are accurate, Resident Evil fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
