Before its release in May, Playground Games shared more information about Forza Horizon 6, highlighting the beautiful and varied landscapes of Japan that players will explore while driving. Playground Games is known for accurately and visually recreating famous locations in their games, and Forza Horizon 6 will continue that tradition with Japan’s diverse environments.
Before its official announcement, there was a lot of talk that Forza Horizon 6 would include Japan as a playable location, alongside previous settings like France, Italy, Australia, Great Britain, and Mexico. A leak actually confirmed this when an Australian car importer, Cult and Classic, briefly posted a picture of a Playground Games developer scanning modern Japanese ‘Kei cars’ for the new Forza Horizon game. That post turned out to be accurate – Japan is indeed the next destination in the Horizon series, and Playground Games is showing off their detailed recreation of the country.
Forza Horizon 6 Shows Off 5 Gorgeous Biomes
Playground Games recently shared a preview of five different natural environments – plains, coast, alpine regions, lowlands, and highlands – that players will be able to explore in the upcoming Forza Horizon game set in Japan. While there will likely be more areas to discover (the previous game had 11!), these first five give fans a taste of what’s to come. With the game launching in a few months, keep watching for more details about all the available zones.
Although the Plains biome might seem like a flat, open area at first glance, the actual game footage shows it’s much more diverse. It includes features like bridges, peaceful streams and other water sources, small villages, and lots of different plants.
I’m really excited about the Japan setting! From what I’ve seen, I’ll be able to drive along the coast, checking out little towns and beaches. They’ve included tons of detail too – like beached fishing boats, cliffs overlooking the roads, and even those classic red torii gates standing in the water. It looks gorgeous and super immersive.
Players will be able to race through a beautiful, mountainous region of Japan in the new Forza Horizon 6. The initial trailer showed off stunning views of Mount Fuji and a fast-paced bullet train. This area features snowy roads, rough landscapes, and tricky turns, and Playground Games promises snow will be present year-round. Exploring this terrain will be best done with a truck, or a vehicle fitted with the right tires.
The Lowlands area offers rolling hills, lush bamboo forests, and beautiful cherry blossom trees, with a stunning view of Mount Fuji in the distance. In contrast, the Highlands is the highest map Playground Games has ever created. The trailer showcases winding roads, expansive mountain routes, and viewpoints that let players take in the scenery for miles. Both areas should provide fantastic opportunities for taking incredible photos using the game’s Photo Mode.

There’s one type of environment in the new game that hasn’t been fully shown off yet. Besides the natural landscapes of Japan, players will be able to drive through the city of Tokyo, which was first revealed back in January at the Xbox Developer Direct event. The developers at Playground Games also announced that this new game will have the largest map in the entire Horizon series, with Tokyo being the biggest city they’ve ever created. In fact, the Japan map is expected to be five times larger than the map of Mexico in the previous game, Horizon 5.
