Fractured Veil Is Shutting Down

Key Takeaways

  • Fractured Veil, an action-adventure survival MMO set in Hawaii, is shutting down.
  • Players awakened as clones on Maui 100 years in the future to survive against mutants in a post-apocalyptic world.
  • The game’s developer, Paddle Creek Games, thanked players for their support.

As a dedicated fan of survival games set in breathtaking landscapes, I was genuinely excited when Fractured Veil launched into early access. The allure of exploring Hawaii post-apocalypse, battling mutants, and building my own base sounded like a dream come true. Sadly, it seems that dream is about to be shattered as the game is shutting down.

The survival MMO game titled “Fractured Veil,” developed by Paddle Creek Games, will be closing down. Launched into early access in January 2024, this action-adventure game set in Hawaii initially sparked hope within the team of around 10 developers regarding its future. As late as August, updates for the independent game were still being rolled out, addressing bugs, enhancing features, and expanding the game’s lore. The updates also hinted at future content, such as language support, new vendors and non-player characters (NPCs), and additional decorative options for player bases.

In the game titled “Fractured Veil,” the main character wakes up as a clone on the island of Maui, 100 years into the future following an apocalypse that devastated everything. Initially, whether you’re alone, in a group on servers where player vs environment (PVE) is the only option, or with more competition on player versus player (PVP) servers, your primary focus is to find essentials like food, water, and shelter. Over time, you strive to construct a survival base to endure the harsh conditions, mutants, and potentially other players. With up to 500 individuals battling it out on a single map, “Fractured Veil” has a unique blend of elements reminiscent of Endnight Games’ popular title, “Sons of the Forest,” and Starry Studios’ successful free-to-play survival MMO, “Once Human.

Regrettably, enthusiasts of the post-apocalyptic, base-building, survival game Fractured Veil have been given unfortunate news. On October 7, the developers announced the game’s closure. The Steam page was initially slated for removal on October 8, but as I write this, it remains active. In a social media post, Paddle Creek expressed gratitude to players who had backed the game during its years in development and confirmed that the Discord server would stay operational for several more months.

Fractured Veil Devs Announce Game Shutdown

It appears that the Fractured Veil Discord server is now closed to new users, their Twitter account has been taken down, and their website seems inactive as well. There’s no information yet on how long the game servers will continue, but it seems the developer is giving players a chance to bid farewell before they shut down.

Mahalo to everyone who helped and supported us through the years.

Since at least 2017, it’s been evident that the game “Veil of Fragments” has been in development. However, a look at its Reddit page suggests that despite the hard work put into it, player excitement hasn’t matched up. This survival MMO has consistently had a very small number of active players since February, as per SteamDB, following a brief surge when it initially entered early access.

If you’re a gamer yearning to test your skills in a post-apocalyptic world filled with monsters, where you can strive to survive and construct an intricate base, games like “Once Human, “, “The Forest” and its sequel “Sons of the Forest“, could be perfect choices for you. For a different take on survival, consider “Subnautica“, which plunges you underwater. Lastly, if you’re in search of an open-world game with positive reviews and both single-player and multiplayer options, “Satisfactory ” by Coffee Stain Studios is another excellent pick on Steam.
