In the latest cinematic for Freja in Overwatch 2, we catch a glimpse of Emre Sarioglu’s potential comeback. This character, an operative from Overwatch, has been a part of the gaming world for nearly a decade. The bounty hunter hero finds himself entangled in some questionable activities with Maximilien in the Overwatch 2 animated short. The story concludes with a surprising twist – a brief appearance at the end by someone who looks strikingly familiar, hinting at Emre Sarioglu’s possible return.
At the latest Spotlight gathering, Blizzard unveiled Freja, the fresh damage character slated for Overwatch 2 in Season 16. Known internally as “Winddasher” due to her agility, Freja used to be a search and rescue operative within Overwatch, but she took up bounty hunting after the group disbanded.
It appears that Freja’s line of work as a bounty hunter has brought her into contact with potentially dangerous individuals, some of whom are familiar. In the trailer for “The Hunt Begins,” Freja, the bounty hunter, offers some criminals she’s captured to Maximilien, a prominent figure in Talon and an Omnic leader in Overwatch 2. The discussions between them soon turn tense, culminating in a fight where Freja manages to overcome Maximilien’s guards, demonstrating her in-game abilities during the process. Following this altercation, Maximilien diffuses the situation by compensating Freja for the bounties and offering her a unique assignment. The target’s name is not disclosed, but a datapad reveals an image of Emre Sarioglu, a former Overwatch operative from Turkey who joined the organization post-Omnic Crisis. Freja consents to track down Emre, although it’s unclear whether she intends to assist him or hand him over to Maximilien.
Overwatch 2 Teases Emre in Freja Hero Trailer
Initially, Emre Sarioglu emerged in a photo during Ana’s backstory in 2016, but not much about him was revealed until the publication of “Overwatch: Declassified” in 2023. As a combat medic, he battled alongside Reinhardt and Torbjorn when the latter lost his arm in an ambush, collaborated with Mercy and Sojourn to tackle a radiation emergency in Australia, and even facilitated Genji’s treatment and transfer to Overwatch custody. Ever since speculation about Emre becoming a hero began even before Brigitte was added, his appearance in Freja’s animated short has only fueled further curiosity about this enigmatic character yet to be introduced in “Overwatch”.
For the character Freja, fans won’t need to hold off until Season 16 to give her a spin. While she’s officially set to debut with the upcoming season on April 22nd, there will be an early opportunity to try her out in Overwatch 2 from March 21st for a three-day trial period. Furthermore, anticipate a Freja motion comic on March 20th, and a gameplay trailer to drop concurrently with the start of her playtest period.
