Fans of *Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End* experienced a rollercoaster in 2025. The manga initially paused production due to the author needing to focus on their health, but thankfully returned in August.
Good news for fans of *Frieren*: a release date for the second season has been announced! It’s currently scheduled to premiere in January 2026, and we’ve already gotten a glimpse with some new artwork and a teaser trailer. However, there’s also been a recent update that has some fans concerned.
Frieren Manga Is Going On An Indefinite Hiatus
Frieren Manga Will Be Going On A Break
- Frieren manga is going on an indefinite hiatus
- The author’s health has been affected
The Frieren manga will be taking a break with no set return date, starting Saturday, October 11th, 2025. This is due to health concerns for both creators, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. While unfortunate, this news isn’t entirely unexpected, as the manga industry is known for its demanding workload.
The demanding schedule of creating manga often takes a toll on authors’ health. The current, open-ended pause in production suggests that both Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe are facing significant health challenges. Hopefully, this break will allow them to fully recover and return to their work when they’re ready.

Fans disappointed by the pause in the Frieren manga can still look forward to the anime! Season two is scheduled to premiere in January 2026, and with Madhouse producing it, we can expect a high-quality show. While the exact number of episodes isn’t known yet, it will probably be similar to the first season, and will likely be released in two parts.
Frieren Might Win Anime Of The Year Award

Frieren’s first season was a contender for Crunchyroll’s Anime of the Year, but Solo Leveling ultimately won. Fans are hoping the upcoming season of Frieren will take home the prize this time.
However, the new anime will have strong competition from popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Oshi no Ko, and Hell’s Paradise. These shows already have large and dedicated fan bases who are excited for their next seasons.

I’ve noticed that the success of Frieren’s first season is already boosting manga sales. It was a hit globally, earning fantastic reviews, and that popularity led many viewers to check out the original manga. This pushed sales past 30 million copies, which is incredible! I fully expect season two to have the same effect, and likely even increase those numbers further.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 will be released in January 2026.
