This post contains spoilers for Frieren.
Many people consider Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End to be the best anime ever made, and it currently has the highest rating on MyAnimeList. While ratings aren’t the only way to judge a show – everyone has different tastes – the high scores do suggest it’s a quality anime worth checking out.
The first season of Frieren was a hit with anime fans, leaving them eager to see what adventures Frieren would have next and what she would learn. Fortunately, the studio Madhouse quickly confirmed that a second season was in the works and would be released in the future.
Frieren Season 2 Release Date
I’m so hyped! We found out a little while ago that Frieren’s second season is coming in January 2026, and the official social media has been giving us so much awesome stuff ever since – trailers, little sneak peeks, and beautiful artwork featuring our favorite elven mage! Now that 2025 is almost over, it’s just a few more weeks until we finally get to see Frieren again on January 16th, 2026. I can hardly wait!
Viewers can expect high-quality animation since the well-respected studio Madhouse is producing the series. They have a reputation for taking great stories and making them even better. While there was initial concern about whether Madhouse would be involved, those worries were quickly resolved. However, a recent development has caused some fans to become anxious and even lose interest in the upcoming season of Frieren.
Frieren Season 2 Will Only Have 10 Episodes
- Frieren Season 2 has 10 episodes
- Fans are concerned about the length of season 2
A recent report indicates that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 will consist of just 10 episodes. This shorter season has upset many fans, especially considering the first season had 28 episodes – a difference of 18 episodes. Some viewers are concerned that the animation studio, Madhouse, only produced 10 episodes following the success of the first season.
Frieren Anime Has Insanely Good Pacing
Many viewers appreciate the speed at which Frieren’s story unfolds, and the first season did a great job of adapting the manga. It covered a significant amount of material – 60 chapters in just 28 episodes – without feeling rushed or drawn out. Because this approach worked so well, the animation studio, Madhouse, likely won’t change it for Season 2. This means the next season will probably adapt around 20 more chapters, bringing the total adapted to 80. However, fans should remember that the manga is currently on an indefinite break, which could affect future adaptations.
The manga is currently on hold because both the writer and artist are experiencing health problems. This isn’t the first time this has happened; the manga previously paused in December 2024 and didn’t resume until August 2025. It ran for a short time after that, but another break was announced in October, and there haven’t been any new announcements about when it will continue.
Being afraid isn’t a bad thing. It’s my fear that’s brought me this far.
A longer anime season would have caught up to the manga too quickly, which isn’t desirable. This might be why Madhouse opted for a shorter season. Producing a high-quality anime takes a significant amount of time – typically one to two years – and we don’t know when work on Frieren Season 2 began. It’s possible the studio simply needed more time to finish it.
Frieren Season 2 Will Be A Major Hit
Despite some debate about its upcoming season, Frieren Season 2 is expected to be a big hit with viewers. It promises plenty of action, emotional moments, and everything fans loved before, making it a must-watch. Many believe it could even be a strong contender for Anime of the Year, especially after coming so close to winning last year with Solo Leveling. Fans are eager to see Frieren take home the award next time around.
