The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ended on a somewhat disappointing note for many fans. Before Season 2 started, many viewers expected it to adapt two story arcs from the manga. This was based on the length of Season 1. However, the season was confirmed to only have 10 episodes. Despite this, Episode 9 of Frieren clearly signaled the start of the story focusing on Macht, a powerful villain from the acclaimed Golden Land Arc. While Macht only appeared briefly, and there were hints about Denken’s past and the challenges ahead, it was enough to create excitement. The season ended with a cliffhanger, as the older mage vowed to protect the Golden Land, fitting for such a strong season.
When the group arrives at Great Tor Canyon, they meet Gehen, a dwarf who has finished building a bridge after 200 years of effort. The problem is, dangerous giant birds make crossing the bridge incredibly risky. Frieren and her companions offer to fight the birds in exchange for a rather silly reward: a spellbook that only makes perfect pancakes. Stark questions why anyone would dedicate centuries to building a bridge, and the answer is typical for this story: Gehen’s village was destroyed by demons long ago, and soldiers couldn’t arrive to help because there was no way to cross the canyon. Building the bridge was a way to honor the lost villagers and ensure no one else suffered the same fate – something the elf Frieren would certainly understand.

The adventurers are running low on money, but they manage to earn some extra funds by finding valuable crystals and defeating a strong wolf monster – the fight is beautifully animated. As the sun rises over the mountains, Frieren remembers sharing the same view with her old team centuries ago. Himmel realizes that even just preserving such stunning scenery for future generations would be a worthy reason to defeat the Demon King, a perilous task. The episode emphasizes that even small actions today can have a lasting impact. Appropriately titled ‘A Beautiful Sight,’ the season finale of Frieren perfectly sets the stage for an epic continuation next year, culminating in a particularly moving line delivered by Fern, the elf’s apprentice.

She’s become a role model for her companions, and it’s touching to imagine how proud Himmel would be when she finally reaches Ende and sees him again. Over time, Frieren has changed subtly; her distant nature has softened, allowing her to show the same warmth and kindness that Himmel always possessed. Ultimately, Frieren teaches us that the best way to create change is to embody it ourselves.
The third season of the fantasy show is scheduled to premiere in October 2027. Although it’s a considerable wait, fans will have plenty of time to anticipate its arrival. The question is, by the time we reach the Golden Land, will we have changed as people?
