FromSoft BETRAYS PlayStation Fans With SHOCKING New Game!

In the first Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, not only was there a mention of Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s contemporary masterpiece, being ported, but also a new game titled The Duskbloods from the same studio. At this point, specifics about this game are limited, however, it is confirmed that Hidetaka Miyazaki, who directed Dark Souls and Elden Ring, will be leading its development. Moreover, it has been marketed as a multiplayer game. On FromSoftware’s official website, The Duskbloods is described as an eight-player Player vs Player vs Environment (PvPvE) title, though the implications for its layout and gameplay pattern are yet to be fully disclosed. Despite this, gamers have already shown interest in The Duskbloods due to a couple of compelling factors.

Many fans of FromSoftware, upon seeing The Duskbloods during the Nintendo Direct, instantly recalled Bloodborne. What came as a shock was learning that the game will debut exclusively for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This isn’t unprecedented for Nintendo, as they’ve secured popular third-party exclusives like Bayonetta 2 and 3 in the past. However, some find it unusual for FromSoftware to make this move, and the more details that emerge, the more puzzling it seems.

FromSoftware Normally Prioritizes PlayStation Releases For Its Games

Ever since FromSoftware made its shift from all-around software development into focusing on video games, I’ve found myself mostly playing their games on PlayStation platforms. A significant chunk of their game library has been exclusive to PlayStation consoles, and they’ve continued this trend, from the debut of the original PlayStation right up until the midway point of the PlayStation 4’s lifespan. Their last exclusives, “Bloodborne” and “Déraciné” for PSVR, were even published by Sony – a tradition that goes back to FromSoftware’s earliest gaming ventures as a gamer.

FromSoftware and Sony Have Shared A Long and Fruitful History

FromSoftware initially launched their first game, “King’s Field,” in December 1994 for the PlayStation 1, and Sony took charge of publishing “Armored Core” and the European release of “King’s Field 2” in 1997. Since then, Sony hasn’t published many FromSoftware games, but their early collaborations fostered a lasting loyalty to Sony’s platforms. The PlayStation has played a significant role in FromSoftware’s history, so the sudden shift to a different platform with “The Duskbloods” is quite unexpected.

The Duskbloods Launching As A Switch 2 Exclusive Is Sudden and Unusual

A FromSoftware Soulslike Is Skipping PlayStation Hardware For The First Time

As a long-time fan of FromSoftware games, I’ve grown accustomed to their releases primarily on PlayStation platforms. However, it was always a rarity when they ventured onto Nintendo consoles. In fact, most FromSoftware titles, when multiplatform, tended to skip over Nintendo altogether. So, you can imagine my surprise when the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct revealed that “The Duskbloods” would be an exclusive release for the Switch 2. This is quite a shift, considering FromSoftware’s history of avoiding Nintendo systems for more than three decades, with only “Lost Kingdoms 1” and “2” being notable exceptions on these platforms.

It’s uncertain at this point if “The Duskbloods” will remain an exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch 2 indefinitely, but it seems plausible given the situation. Although it’s technically possible to port “The Duskbloods” to other platforms, the superior hardware of the Switch 2 reduces the necessity for such adaptations. Furthermore, there are indications that Nintendo and FromSoftware may jointly publish “The Duskbloods,” which makes the prospect of seeing this game on PlayStation platforms less likely, suggesting that FromSoftware’s tradition of releasing games on PlayStation systems will not include “The Duskbloods” in the future.
