FromSoftware Delays Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.02 Due to Tsunami Warning in Japan as Massive Earthquake Off Russia Triggers Evacuations Across Pacific

Due to the ongoing tsunami warnings in Japan following a significant earthquake near Russia, FromSoftware has postponed the release of Elden Ring’s patch 1.02.

The initial tremor-generated waves from the powerful 8.8 earthquake in Russia’s coastal waters have arrived in Hawaii, where a 4-foot (1.2 meter) wave was measured off Oahu. In Japan, about 1.9 million individuals were instructed to evacuate due to an incoming tsunami, and a 4.2-foot (1.3 meter) wave has already hit the northern Iwate prefecture, as reported by the BBC.

In light of recent events, FromSoftware based in Tokyo has announced a postponement of the release for today’s Elden Ring update, initially scheduled for July 30. This update was expected to introduce a duos mode and begin the second phase of the Everdark Sovereign cycle.

Because a tsunami warning has been issued after an earthquake close to the Kamchatka Peninsula, we’ve chosen to delay the release of the Elden Ring Nightreign Patch 1.02, initially set for today. Instead, it will be rolled out on July 31 (Thursday) at around 10am CEST or 1am PDT tomorrow.

Moreover, the second phase of Everdark Sovereign, initially set to commence at 3 am Central European Summer Time or 6 pm Pacific Daylight Time on the 30th of July tomorrow, has been postponed until after the update is disseminated.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

It seems likely that other Japan-based developers will also delay their video game releases in response to the tsunami warning. iggn.ru will remain on top of the story as it develops.

Currently, Japan’s Meteorological Agency reports that tsunami waves have hit several coastal regions in the country. Affected areas include Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefectures, with wave heights reaching up to 3 meters (approximately 9 feet). Authorities are urging thousands of people to evacuate for safety reasons. As of now, NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, has not reported any significant damage.
