FromSoftware is ‘Not Chasing a Trend’ with Elden Ring Nightreign

FromSoftware recently explained how Elden Ring Nightreign is not following a trend.

During an interview with PCGamer (through GamesRadar), game director Junya Ishizaki explained their unique approach to Elden Ring Nightreign and why it deviates from current trends. Ishizaki clarified that the developers are aiming to make the game more concise, encompassing elements like role-playing mechanics, open-world exploration, character progression, and leveling up. Essentially, they want all these aspects to coalesce into a “compact boss battle.

The developers aim to incorporate a unique feeling of achievement distinct from what’s found in Elden Ring or other FromSoftware games, alongside fresh mechanics and features for the game. They didn’t stress avoiding everything other companies are doing or following trends; instead, they view Elden Ring Nightreign not as jumping on a bandwagon but as elements that fit with their “multiplayer-focused session-based gameplay.

Last year at The Game Awards, Elden Ring: Nightreign was unveiled as a spin-off cooperative action-adventure game scheduled to launch in 2025. Players can choose to embark on the adventure solo or team up with two companions within a smaller map modeled after the Limgrave region. Each playthrough will feature unique enemies for an added challenge, and the game will be available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
