FromSoftware’s Next Single-Player Soulslike Could Be Closer Than You Think!

Over time, FromSoftware has earned a strong reputation for creating complex, at times difficult, single-player games that feature captivating worlds filled with intriguing lore. This developer is highly esteemed within the industry, and players were thrilled as FromSoftware reached new heights with Elden Ring in 2022.

Initially, I thought FromSoftware’s next move would be another solo journey, much like their previous titles. But then, during The Game Awards last year, they threw everyone for a loop by unveiling Elden Ring Nightreign – a multiplayer spin-off! And just when we thought that was it, they dropped another bomb in April: The Duskbloods, a multiplayer game, is coming to the Switch 2. For some of us FromSoftware diehards, this double whammy of multiplayer games might seem a bit disappointing. Yet, there’s hope that our long wait for a new single-player narrative may not last as long as initially anticipated.

Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods May Not Be the Only Projects FromSoftware Has in the Works

  • Elden Ring Nightreign launches May 30.
  • The Duskbloods is slated to arrive sometime in 2026.

It’s worth mentioning that FromSoftware hasn’t officially announced any new single-player games they are actively working on right now. Yet, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of one being in its early stages. Typically, FromSoftware unveils projects once a substantial amount of progress has been made, which could indicate a brand-new single-player adventure brewing behind the scenes. With Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods coming soon, this is an exciting time for fans of single-player games.

2022’s Game of the Year title went to Elden Ring at the Game Awards. With Nightreign and The Duskbloods in the picture, there’s a possibility they could be nominated for the Best Multiplayer Game award next time around.

Hidetaka Miyazaki Has Reassured Fans That Single-Player Games Will Continue

In a blog post on the Nintendo Creator’s Voice, FromSoftware’s Miyazaki reassured fans about the studio’s future focus. He clarified that while their upcoming game, “The Duskbloods,” is primarily an online multiplayer title, it doesn’t signal a permanent shift towards multiplayer games for the company. Instead, they will continue to actively develop single-player games as well.

While a new single-player game from FromSoftware may not be imminent, their recent accomplishments suggest they’re exploring new possibilities while staying true to their signature style that has proven successful. After the triumph of Elden Ring, it’s logical for them to test their creative boundaries and discover what other masterpieces they can craft within this framework.

Instead of Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods becoming standard fare for FromSoftware, they appear to be just stepping stones on the path to their next standalone title. Hypothetically, if FromSoftware is secretly working on another soulslike game, it could potentially be released by 2027. This is all conjecture, but considering that possibility, the wait doesn’t seem quite so intimidating.

It’s officially confirmed that a real-life film adaptation of Elden Ring is underway. Production company A24 will be behind it, and acclaimed director Alex Garland has been appointed for the task.

Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods Show a Different Side of FromSoftware

It’s exciting to imagine another soul-like game in development by the same studio, as we eagerly await to discover how FromSoftware’s fresh approach unfolds. Instead of playing it safe and continuing with the familiar, they’ve ventured into a new genre, which adds to the anticipation. Whether or not Nightreign and The Duskbloods become hits for the developer is yet to be seen, but once these multiplayer titles are released, we can’t wait to see what innovative ideas FromSoftware has up its sleeve next.
