Frostpunk 2 announces mod support at launch

As a seasoned gamer with a decade of frosty adventures under my belt, the announcement of Frostpunk 2‘s mod support has me shivering with anticipation! I vividly remember the chilly thrills of the original game, and the prospect of diving back into that frozen world with new maps, scenarios, and possibilities is enough to make my digital fingers tingle.

11 Bit Studios unveiled today that Frostpunk 2 will come equipped with comprehensive mod support, thanks to their own tool called FrostKit. Initially in beta, it’s designed to grow and improve over time, but it’s an exciting feature for players eager for more gameplay experiences and who delight in creating expansions based on what promises to be another fantastic title.

In Frostpunk 2, you’ll be tasked with building, growing, and improving your city in a post-apocalyptic survival game set 30 years after a catastrophic blizzard swept across Earth. Unlike the first game, this time around you’ll not only have to contend with the unrelenting cold, but also navigate the complex politics within the Council Hall as different factions keep a close eye on your decisions.

Szymon Jablonski, Technical Director for Frostpunk 2, commented that map and scenario mod support has been a much-discussed subject within the community since the release of the initial Frostpunk in 2018. He went on to say that while the original game and its proprietary engine had their constraints, the transition to Unreal Engine has brought about significant changes.

In line with the announcement that mod support is coming to Frostpunk 2, a fresh trailer has been unveiled, offering a closer look at the modding tool. The FrostKit tool, set for further enhancements based on community input, will provide creators with extensive functionalities, offering the development team valuable insights into what’s effective and what requires refinement.

In simpler terms, Frostpunk 2 is scheduled for release on September 20th for PC platforms. It’ll also be accessible immediately on launch day through PC Game Pass. A console version is planned for a later release. If you buy the Digital Deluxe Edition, you can start playing three days earlier, from September 17th.
