Frostpunk 2 reveals “Multiple Colonies” feature in new dev diary

As an avid gamer with a penchant for strategy games that push my mental faculties to their limits, I eagerly await the release of Frostpunk 2 on September 20th. The “City Unbound” series has been a captivating journey, and the final episode detailing the “multiple colonies” feature piques my interest even further.

-bit Studios, the developer, has published the eighth installment in the “City Unbound” series for Frostpunk 2, focusing on the “multiple colonies” aspect

As a gamer, I’m pumped! The grand finale of the City Unbound series is almost here, dropping on September 20th. Starting from the 17th, some lucky gamers will get early access! This video diary highlights an exciting new feature: “multiple colonies”. The team hints that as New London expands to encompass several colonies scattered across the frostland, the risks are no longer confined to a single city—survival is anything but certain. It’s going to be a nail-biting adventure!

In simpler terms, larger colonies function much like cities, possessing their own economic systems, supply chains, and inhabitants. To create a colony, players need to transfer some of the population from the primary city. Although New London maintains authority over these colonies (meaning there are no independent representatives or voting rights), each settlement requires careful supervision. If managed efficiently, these colonies can transform into essential centers, focusing on agriculture or oil production

“Game directors Lukasz Juszczyk and Jakub Stokalski noted that larger colonies are similar to cities, possessing their own economies, transportation systems, and inhabitants. To set up a colony, players must transfer some of the populace from the main city. Even though New London remains in charge—there are no elected officials or votes in the colonies—each settlement needs careful oversight. With proper management, these outposts can evolve into crucial centers, focusing on agricultural output or oil extraction.”

In Frostpunk 2, the game’s description on Steam explains that the world is perpetually frozen, forcing humanity to expand cities as a means of survival. To grow and thrive, these urban centers require essential resources such as coal and oil, while their inhabitants necessitate food and warmth. Essentially, your role in Frostpunk 2 is to navigate the ongoing loop of supply and demand

On September 20th, Frostpunk 2 will debut on PC via Steam and PC Game Pass. Console versions will follow at a later date
