As a long-time fan of both LEGO games and Funko Pop! figures, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment when it comes to the lack of character creators in these exciting franchises. While LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga delivered an immersive experience that transported me back to my favorite Star Wars moments, the absence of the robust character creator was a noticeable omission.
In contrast to the captivating franchises that LEGO games are known for showcasing, another appealing feature was the intricate character creator they previously provided. Regrettably, with the arrival of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, this character creation tool is no longer available in the game. Although it doesn’t completely mar the overall experience, the absence leaves a noticeable gap. Interestingly, even Funko Fusion omitted this feature, yet it held the promise to revolutionize the concept altogether.
Similar to how LEGO games transform various franchises into LEGO-styled worlds, Funko Fusion has given a Funko makeover to numerous series, such as The Umbrella Academy, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. This means players can now delve into these franchises in the form of Funko Pops, adding an extra layer of nostalgia. However, the game could have been even more unique if it had also incorporated elements from Funko’s Pop! Yourself service, allowing players to customize and personalize these franchises to truly make them their own. Such a feature could have potentially addressed one of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s most contentious points.
Funko Fusion Could Have Done Wonders With a Character Creator
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Stripped the Feature Out
Ever since the release of LEGO Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy, Traveller’s Tales has consistently incorporated a character creator in every one of their adventures. As the franchise expanded, so did the character creation system. What initially began as a mere aesthetic addition eventually morphed into an extensive feature that allows players to craft their ideal hero. In fact, LEGO DC Super-Villains even integrated it into the game’s narrative, making the main character a customized one. However, surprisingly, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga decided to scrap this feature.
The anticipated LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was expected to be the grandest LEGO game ever, offering a LEGO spin on the entire Star Wars universe. However, despite Traveler’s Tales crafting an incredible gaming experience, they omitted the beloved character creator, causing quite a stir among players. This exclusion was particularly contentious given that it was marketed as the ultimate LEGO adventure. At present, there is no update on what the next LEGO game will entail or if it will reintroduce this feature.
Funko Fusion Had The Perfect Template to Bring the Feature Back
In contrast to Funko Fusion, the character creation feature was missing. However, considering Funko’s Pop! Yourself service, where collectors can customize their own Funko Pop figures, it seems fitting that a similar option could have been included in Funko Fusion. This feature, had it been present, might have made a significant impact on games like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Instead of just LEGO Star Wars, Funko Fusion offers characters from more than 20 distinct franchises. This means that the character creation process might have incorporated pieces from these various franchises. Consequently, players could have assembled a character that’s part KFC, Jaws, Masters of the Universe, The Walking Dead, and many other imaginative hybrids. Moreover, each character would have had unique abilities and accessories specific to their respective franchise, which could have provided hours of enjoyable gameplay. If the developers really wanted to push the boundaries, they could have also extended this feature to other Funko merchandise as well.
It’s no longer feasible to incorporate a character creator at this stage of development, but if Funko Fusion expands into its own series, the next installment should undeniably feature something similar for fan enjoyment. This addition would not only provide an exciting perk for fans, but it could also bridge the gap if Traveller’s Tales continues to overlook this feature. For now, we can only anticipate what will happen in the future.
