As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Funko Fusion has truly captured my heart and sparked my curiosity. From the moment I laid eyes on its intricate level design, I knew this game was going to be something special. The blend of action-adventure and puzzles is a breath of fresh air, and it’s a testament to the developers’ creativity that they managed to create such a diverse range of enemy encounters.
Funko Fusion is an engaging action-adventure game that allows players to embody more than 60 characters from over 20 movie, TV, comic, and video game franchises, provided by 10:10 Games. This game seems destined to be the ultimate fan delight with additional franchises added in the future. What makes Funko Fusion unique is its blend of popular franchises, which not only includes recent hits like Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and Five Nights at Freddy, but also brings back timeless classics such as Back to The Future, The Mummy, and Xena: Warrior Princess. Game Rant was fortunate enough to play a preview of some of the chosen intellectual properties, thanks to the opportunity they were given.
Apart from testing various characters from Funko Fusion, each with unique melee and ranged weapons, we were fortunate enough to delve into the distinct worlds of Funko Fusion. Furthermore, we embarked on an initial story quest that offered insights into how this game brings together multiple franchises, providing a more immersive experience.
Funko Fusion Is The Ultimate Celebration Of Fandom
To get started, we launched into the Funko Fusion demo, much like opening a real Funko box and selecting our character from the lineup on the screen – similar to picking your favorite Pop! figure off the shelf. In this game, you could select one of several Funko characters to embark on your journey in either the Jurassic World or Hot Fuzz scenarios:
- Jurassic World: Owen Grady, Clare Dearing, Barry Sembene, or Kayla.
- Hot Fuzz: Nicholas Angel, Danny Butterman, Doris Thatcher, or Sgt Tony Fisher.
We chose Owen Grady from Jurassic World to launch our Funko Fusion journey at the Wonderworks Factory, which is a central Hub full of unlockables and Easter Eggs. For our chosen world, the Hub starting zone was transformed into a Jurassic World-inspired with Easter Eggs like a Funko skeleton sitting inside a portapotty. This was a fun nod to that infamous original Jurassic Park toilet death scene and a small taste of the game’s irreverent humor.
Introducing Funko Fusion’s Wonderworks Factory
The introductory quest took us around the Wonderworks Factory. It led us to rescue a trapped Foxxo inside a security hut and battle some invading purple plasma creatures. Here, we could also swap characters freely from Funko Pop! character boxes in the environment to try out their different firearms and melee weapons, something players can do at regular points elsewhere. For instance, we tried out Chris’ wrench, Barry’s hilarious toy dinosaur on a stick, Clare’s cattle prod, and Kayla’s electric device. We then drank a bottle of green soda to restore our health and crafted a Bounce Pad blueprint using the Mold Machine to solve a locked door puzzle.
Afterward, we encountered Freddy and Eddy directly, as hinted in the story trailer for Funko Fusion. This encounter marked our initial boss fight against a colossal corrupted Foxxo. The battle was brief but entertaining, combining third-person combat with puzzle-solving. Although the combat may appear simple, it’s not something to be taken lightly and will keep players alert. Battles can become quite hectic, yet in an engaging manner. Now that we had our golden ‘Funkey,’ we were free to enter our selected world, and it soon became clear that Funko Fusion could be the ultimate fan celebration.
Jurassic World In Funko Fusion – A Ferociously Fun Visual Feast
As a die-hard fan, I dived right into the thrilling Jurassic World level of Funko Fusion’s box labeled ‘Dilopho Saw Us!’. Starting off in a secure zone, my mission was clear: hunt down five notorious, acid-spewing dilophosaurs amidst the mayhem of prehistoric creatures. The hilarity ensued as Funko figures were chased by pterodactyls, echoing a delightful twist on the first Jurassic World movie scene and offering a dash of humor reminiscent of Lego video games. It was a visual feast of chaotic fun! I dodged screen-shattering projectiles from the Dilophosaurus, took down bad guys, and made clever use of collectibles like vinyl for crafting tools such as grenades at Mold Stations. On-the-spot crafting also proved essential to solve puzzles and maintain health levels.
As I pursued the primary objectives, I found myself equally captivated by the game’s intricate level design, which seemed tailor-made for multiple playthroughs and puzzle enthusiasts. The enemy encounters were not only varied but also thrilling, with groups of Compys delivering swift and brutal attacks that required quick reflexes to dodge. These intense moments often called for rapid button presses to evade the attackers.
In the game Funko Fusion, if a player perishes, they transform into a ghost. To reappear back at the secure starting location, these spectral entities need to collect or snatch sufficient figurines (vinyl).
Additionally, we encountered a challenge or two when tackling a specific power conundrum within the game. Players might find themselves brainstorming solutions to advance at certain points. Don’t worry if you think the puzzles might be too difficult due to Funko’s child-friendly image; these challenges offer a range of complexity and can provide a meaningful test even for experienced players.
Funko Fusion’s Take On Hot Fuzz – Nicholas Angel Would Be Proud
Shifting gears to “Hot Fuzz”, the Funko Fusion rendition of this classic action-comedy film lived up to expectations. The initial setting was beautifully reimagined as the picturesque town of Sandford, complete with British patrol cars adorning the streets and witty references to the series. The universe depicted in “Hot Fuzz” is named ‘Prime Time Crime’ and commenced at a police station where the desk clerk jokingly warned us against arresting the entire village. We then embarked on a humorous adventure, following a peculiar swan with a flashing police light, which led us through memorable scenes from the film. This journey also involved solving a car crash crime scene by illuminating three hidden hints using a camera.
As a dedicated gamer, I found myself immersed in the world of Hot Fuzz, where I could pick my character, be it the relentless and meticulous Nicholas Angel. The iconic Hot Fuzz music set the stage for this adventure, guiding me through familiar landscapes like an old church that almost had a falling statue land on me, adding another crime scene to investigate. Peeking into Funko Fusion’s interpretation of Hot Fuzz was a blast, and I can’t wait for fellow fans of the Cornetto Trilogy to enjoy it too. The unique abilities of Funko Fusion’s Hot Fuzz characters truly stood out, particularly their impressive arsenal of weapons.
- Nicholas Angel – pistol and plant pot.
- Danny Butterman – shotgun and ice cream.
- Doris Thatcher – police traffic camera and caution wet floor sign.
- Sgt Tony Fisher – biscuit gun and traffic cone.
In summary, it appears that the game Funko Fusion will offer players an enjoyable experience as they navigate creative interpretations of well-known universes and figures. Some of these characters will debut in video games for the first time. The gameplay combines third-person action-adventure with puzzle elements, which should both challenge and entertain players. Previewing Funko Fusion, it seems destined to bring joy to many and serves as a charming tribute to all the franchises featured. While it’s uncertain how well the game will be received, it certainly looks poised to please fans with its faithful recreation of their beloved characters and moments in a way that truly celebrates them.
