A new modification, or ‘mod,’ is revitalizing the 2003 video game The Simpsons: Hit & Run by turning its setting into a remarkably accurate version of New New York from Futurama. The mod, created by Slurm Team, essentially recreates the world of Futurama within the gameplay of Hit & Run.
The mod’s creators built everything – all the 3D models – completely from the beginning, as if it were official downloadable content for the game.
Even the lead designer of the original game, Joe McGinn, is impressed, saying, “This looks awesome! I want to play it!”

You can download a free demo of the mod now, which includes four story missions, an extra mission, four races, and six vehicles, among other things. The playable map covers about 25% of New New York.
The mod developers used AI to create some of the dialogue because the original voice actors weren’t available to record new lines.
Why Didn’t The Simpsons Hit & Run 2 Happen?
The release of a new mod for the classic game The Simpsons: Hit & Run raises the question of why a sequel was never made. Surprisingly, a second game was actually in development after the original’s success. However, the original publisher, Vivendi, lost the rights to the Simpsons franchise and decided not to continue making games in the series.
In 2023, former executive producer John Melchior recalled that “The Simpsons” team offered five games for a significant amount of money, but Vivendi declined the deal.
