Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation Confirms Release Date

Game Freak has shared new details about their upcoming action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, and announced when players will be able to play it. Development on Beast of Reincarnation began six years ago in 2020, and the game was first revealed in 2023 as ‘Project Bloom’ in partnership with Private Division. After Private Division was rebranded as Fictions, ‘Project Bloom’ became Beast of Reincarnation, and Game Freak has been actively promoting the game leading up to its 2026 release.

Even though Game Freak is best known for the Pokemon series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, the studio has been highlighting its new game, Beast of Reincarnation, in recent showcases like Xbox’s Developer Direct and the February PlayStation State of Play. Game Freak has created other original games in the past, such as Tembo the Badass Elephant and Little Town Hero, but because they’re so closely linked with Pokemon, any new projects they announce generate a lot of excitement. Beast of Reincarnation seems to be their biggest and most ambitious game outside of the Pokemon franchise in years, and fans now have a release date to look forward to.

Beast of Reincarnation Release Date

  • August 4, 2026

During Sony’s February 2026 PlayStation State of Play presentation, Game Freak showcased a new trailer for their upcoming game, Beast of Reincarnation. They also announced the game will be released on August 4, 2026 – a strategic date chosen to avoid the busy holiday season for major game releases. This timing also likely keeps the game clear of a potential launch for Grand Theft Auto 6, which many in the industry are anticipating and trying to avoid competing with, even though a release date for that game hasn’t been announced yet.

In Beast of Reincarnation, a one-player, one-dog action RPG developed by Game Freak, you play as Emma the Sealer. Shunned by society for her ability to control Blight, Emma can use these powers to manipulate plants, solve puzzles, explore the world, and battle enemies. She’s accompanied by her canine companion, Koo, as they journey to liberate a ruined Japan from a destructive, corrupting creature. The game’s themes of birth and regrowth have drawn comparisons to Studio Ghibli films like Princess Mononoke and its depiction of the Spirit of the Forest.

Beast of Reincarnation is set to release on PC, marking Game Freak’s first venture onto PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Surprisingly, it doesn’t seem to be planned for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is unusual given Game Freak’s close partnership with Nintendo and the Pokémon franchise. However, there’s still a chance for a Switch 2 announcement, and Nintendo fans are hoping for a Direct presentation soon to reveal the company’s plans for the console in 2026.

Like many new games, especially those made by Microsoft’s first-party studios, Beast of Reincarnation will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on its launch day. Fans are already impressed with Beast of Reincarnation, particularly because recent Pokémon games like Scarlet and Violet received criticism for technical problems and weak visuals. Beast of Reincarnation demonstrates that Game Freak can deliver a game that meets—and sometimes surpasses—modern expectations.
