As a huge cinema and TV fan, I have to say Game of Thrones really took the world by storm, starting with the incredible books and then becoming a massive hit on HBO. What struck me most is how much detail George R.R. Martin put into creating this whole world – it’s filled with amazing stories, grand adventures, and, of course, dragons! Honestly, the scope of the Game of Thrones universe is just breathtaking.

We’ve built an interactive map showcasing the important events and places from Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Currently, the map highlights what happened in the TV shows, not the books. You’ll find details on epic battles and, of course, all the character deaths throughout these stories. Feel free to explore the world of Westeros and Essos!

With new episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms now streaming on HBO Max, we’ll regularly update this map to show important events, places, and any characters who may not survive.

Where We’re At in the GoT Universe

Game of Thrones

The show ran for eight seasons, and its final episode aired way back in 2019 – it makes you realize how much time has passed! The series is based on the epic fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, collectively known as A Song of Ice and Fire, which includes books like A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons.

We’re all currently holding our breaths for The Winds of Winter.

House of the Dragon

This series is a prequel to Game of Thrones, telling the story of a major conflict within House Targaryen about 200 years before the events of the original show. Two seasons are currently available, and a third is planned for release in the summer of 2026.

This show tells the story of the brutal Targaryen civil war, known as the “Dance of Dragons,” which ultimately led to the family losing its grip on the Iron Throne. The details of this conflict, and other events involving the Targaryens, are explored in George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

HBO’s latest series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is a prequel set within the Game of Thrones universe. It takes place roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, and chronologically fits between House of the Dragon and the original Game of Thrones series.

This story is a bit more cheerful than many others set in this world, and it follows the humorous adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young companion, Egg.
