As a huge fan of Game of Thrones, I was really excited when George R.R. Martin said last year that they were working on sequels. But recently, Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, pretty much confirmed that we won’t be seeing his character return to that world. Apparently, a sequel series focusing on Jon Snow was in the works at HBO – James Hibberd, who wrote a behind-the-scenes book about the show and reported on it for The Hollywood Reporter, revealed that back in 2022 – but it seems those plans have been scrapped.
As a huge fan of Game of Thrones, I was really hoping the Snow series, which was quietly shelved this year, could have been something special. Apparently, Kit Harington felt they just didn’t have the right story to tell, though George R.R. Martin seemed to really like the idea and the team behind it. A lot of us fans were secretly hoping it could even redeem the final season, while others just want to let the show rest in peace. But after reading a recent Variety interview, it’s pretty clear: Kit Harington has absolutely no plans to ever reprise his role as Jon Snow. It’s a sad reality for anyone who loved his character.
Kit Harrington Shuts Down Game of Thrones Comeback After Being Cast As Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter

Kit Harington recently spoke with Variety about his new role as Gilderoy Lockhart in the full-cast audiobook version of Harry Potter, available exclusively on Audible. This version features a different actor for each major character, offering a fresh way to enjoy the series. While Jim Dale’s original narration of the Harry Potter audiobooks is widely praised, this new full-cast edition provides a different experience for fans as they wait for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter television series, set to premiere in early 2027.
Variety recently asked Kit Harington, given his current voice acting work, if he’d consider rerecording the A Song of Ice and Fire audiobooks. The original audiobooks were narrated by the late Roy Dotrice. Harington was firm in his response: “Absolutely not. I don’t want to revisit Game of Thrones at all. I spent ten years playing Jon Snow, and that’s enough for me.”
Even Melisandre Can’t Revive HBO’s Jon Snow Spin-Off Series Now

Although George R.R. Martin has hinted at potential Game of Thrones sequels, it seems unlikely Kit Harington will reprise his role as Jon Snow. Harington has suggested he’s ready to move on, as playing Jon Snow was incredibly stressful for him. He told Variety in 2019 that a particularly difficult time was when the show heavily focused on Jon, especially during and after his death and resurrection. He disliked the intense attention being placed on his character.
The decision to put the Jon Snow spin-off on hold might actually be good for Kit Harington and his well-being. Jon Snow’s story already reached a satisfying conclusion – he found peace and freedom. Reviving his character, especially with a whole new series, could damage the reputation of Game of Thrones, which is already somewhat controversial. Sometimes, it’s best to leave things as they are.
