The second season of House of the Dragon ended with a frustrating cliffhanger, setting up a major battle between the Black and Green armies. However, the season was cut short from 10 to 8 episodes due to budget issues at HBO and the 2023 actors’ strike, leaving the final episode feeling incomplete as a season finale. The good news is that season three, arriving this summer, will pick up right where things left off with an exciting start.
HBO has started promoting the third season of House of the Dragon after a two-year break. A new teaser was released on the show’s official X page, showing damaged banners of Aegon II Targaryen—likely hinting at the fall of King’s Landing. A poster featuring Rhaenyra, with the tagline “From Fire Comes Darkness,” and a release date in June 2026 were also revealed. After 18 episodes, the long-awaited conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons is almost here.
A Real House of the Dragons Season 3 Teaser Drops Tomorrow
Busterwood Studio created a short video for the official House of the Dragon X account showing King Aegon II Targaryen’s banners ripped, burned, and appearing in cities like Paris. The video was posted with the message, “First, the banners fall,” and confirms a full trailer will be released tomorrow, February 19, 2026.
It’s a bit disappointing that we won’t see a first look at House of the Dragon Season 3 alongside the finale of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, HBO likely wants to keep the marketing for each show distinct, and the House of the Dragon teaser will probably be released before the last episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms anyway.
As a huge fan of the books, especially Fire & Blood, I knew seeing those green banners meant King’s Landing was doomed! We all remember the rumors about the Fall of King’s Landing potentially happening at the end of Season 2, when they were planning for a longer season. It’s going to be an incredible battle led by Daemon Targaryen, and Team Black will finally win, with Rhaenyra claiming the Iron Throne. Considering how quickly things have moved in the story so far, I’m expecting to see the Fall of King’s Landing play out within the first three episodes of Season 3. I can’t wait!
House of the Dragon Season 3 Officially Returns to HBO This June
Although HBO hasn’t announced an exact date, a new poster indicates that Season 3 of House of the Dragon will premiere in June. Considering Season 2 started airing on June 16, 2024, Season 3 could arrive as early as June 14, 2026, if HBO maintains a similar schedule. We’re hoping a trailer releasing tomorrow will reveal the official date, and we expect Season 3 to be the strongest season of the series so far.
Now that House of the Dragon has been renewed for a fourth and final season, the upcoming third season absolutely needs to feature key events like the Battle of the Gullet, the fall of King’s Landing, and the First Battle of Tumbleton – these moments are crucial turning points in the Dance of the Dragons. However, there’s concern because George R.R. Martin, the author of the source material, has voiced his disappointment with showrunner Ryan Condal’s plans for the season, saying the show is deviating from his original vision for Fire & Blood. While we hope Season 3 won’t be a letdown, George’s unhappiness is a worrying sign for the series’ future.
