Game Science CEO Reveals His Views on Black Myth Wukong Not Winning GOTY

As a dedicated follower of the gaming world, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for Yocar-Feng Ji, the visionary CEO and founder of Game Science, who saw his masterpiece, Black Myth Wukong, lose out on the coveted Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024. Seven years in the making, this game was not just a project for Mr. Ji; it was a labor of love, a monumental achievement that he had been nurturing since 2017.

As a passionate gamer myself, I can’t help but reflect on the recent conversation held by our esteemed leader, Yocar-Feng Ji, about Black Myth Wukong not clinching the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2024. It’s a topic that’s been buzzing in my gaming community and beyond, as we all eagerly await the masterpiece that is Black Myth Wukong.

Spotted by TheGamer, Yocar-Feng Ji took to the Chinese social media platform, Weibo, to express his dissatisfaction with Black Myth Wukong losing out on GOTY at TGA 2024. Feng Ji first spoke about how the award ceremony came along simultaneously with their ‘relatively large update‘ for the title and how this project has spanned 7 years. He then talks about how the game was nominated across four categories and won the Best Action Game and Players’ Voice award, with the latter being more satisfying. 

Feng Ji expressed feelings of disappointment and remorse because Wukong didn’t win Game of the Year (GOTY). He believes all the nominated games were outstanding, but he can’t understand what exactly determined this year’s GOTY. Feeling a bit let down, Feng Ji feels like his trip to Los Angeles was pointless.

Feng Ji expressed strong conviction that Black Myyth Wukong would be named Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. He’s so certain about it that he wrote his acceptance speech “a couple of years back”.

Despite all expectations, the game Black Myth Wukong by Game Science has become an enormous hit, surpassing sales of more than 10 million units and shattering multiple simultaneous player records on Steam.
