Details about Ubisoft’s next Far Cry game, Far Cry 7, and a new shooter game have appeared online, but it’s unclear to those analyzing the leaked data exactly what they’ve found.
According to TopMob’s 2024 report, the next Far Cry game initially went by the codename ‘Talisker’ but was ultimately canceled. This cancellation led to the start of two new Far Cry projects: Blackbird, which will be the next main installment in the series, and Maverick, a separate game focused on the extraction shooter genre.
Leaked images were initially thought to be from a game set in Alaska, but they actually seem to depict a jungle environment with Mayan pyramids, similar to those found in Mexico. These images are from the multiplayer mode of a project called Talisker – a team-based elimination game featuring large billboards around the map. Early concept art and in-development images shared with TopMob, with the agreement they wouldn’t be released publicly, perfectly match the screenshots we’ve seen.
One screenshot shows a huge rat dragging a deceased character, likely due to mutated animals featured in Talisker’s backstory – a result of experimentation. While these mutations will appear in the broader Far Cry 7 world, the standalone Maverick experience will focus on more common and realistic wildlife like wolves and bears.
Whether or not the game, currently known as Maverick, will actually be released is still uncertain. Reports suggest it’s been difficult to create a fun and compelling way to play, and ongoing problems with the development team and leadership could lead to the project being canceled.
Details about Far Cry 7 have apparently surfaced through files from the game XDefiant. Fans digging into these files found images that look like locations from the next Far Cry game, hinting that it will likely be set in Alaska – a rumor that has been circulating for a while. The leaked information also seems to…

Of the images shown, the one featuring the Beckett family is the most notable. Previous reports indicated that Far Cry 7 will include a time-sensitive mission: players will have 24 real-world hours (equivalent to 72 in-game hours) to rescue the kidnapped Beckett family. While it’s uncertain if this feature has been altered, it currently appears to still be part of the game, despite some debate surrounding it.
We don’t yet know who will play the main character in the game. There were rumors about Cillian Murphy, but those turned out to be false. However, I’ve heard Kevin Durand (known for his roles in ‘The Strain,’ ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ and ‘The Naked Gun’) was considered for the part.
So, it looks like these images actually come from an older, internal version of Ubisoft’s system – that explains why the leaked screenshots and info weren’t super clear! Makes sense now that the original leakers were dealing with a blurry source.
