Summary
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows is not available on a Nintendo console at the time of this writing.
- One Nintendo user modified a New 3DS to stream Assassin’s Creed Shadows to the handheld.
Over the past seven days, enthusiasts of Xbox, PlayStation, and PC gaming have immersed themselves in the captivating world of feudal Japan within the newly released title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, Nintendo users found themselves on the sidelines, with the exception of a fortunate few who managed to play it on a New 3DS from over a decade ago. The game has been generating widespread acclaim among players and reviewers alike since its debut. In just one week, an astounding 3 million gamers have embarked on their adventures in feudal Japan alongside Naoe and Yasuke.
In terms of the Assassin’s Creed series, Nintendo players have historically missed out on many titles. None of the primary entries in the franchise were released for the Nintendo 3DS, its handheld predecessor, and a game specifically designed for it, Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy, was unfortunately never launched. While Wii U users could enjoy games like Assassin’s Creed 3 and Black Flag, these performed significantly better graphically on Xbox and PlayStation consoles during their release.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve always dreamt of taking my adventures on the go, and with the long-awaited release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I decided to make it happen, even on my trusty 2015 New 3DS! Excitedly, I shared several snaps and a video on Twitter, showcasing the game’s smooth performance. However, as I gracefully parried enemy attacks in the short clip, there was one noticeable hiccup that momentarily paused the action for about 40 seconds. Despite this minor glitch, the overall experience has been quite enjoyable!
Nintendo Fan Gets Assassin’s Creed Shadows Playable on 3DS
Underneath the tweet, Bob Wulff explained that Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t directly playable on the 3DS, but instead, it’s streamed from a console or PC to the 3DS screen using the Moonlight game streaming client. It would be intriguing to find out if Wulff intends to complete the entire game on the 3DS screen or if they’re just experimenting for fun. Given the 800×200 pixel resolution of the 3DS, it seems unlikely that it offers an optimal way to enjoy Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game’s weather system is particularly visually stunning; it’s challenging to imagine it looking as impressive at such a low resolution.
For Nintendo Switch gamers who are eagerly waiting for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”, it’s important to note that none of the latest role-playing style “Assassin’s Creed” games have been ported over. Instead, only remastered versions of earlier, less graphically demanding games like “Assassin’s Creed 3: Remastered”, “Rogue”, and the Ezio trilogy have appeared on the platform. The upcoming “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” could potentially come to Switch since its world is smaller than the RPG entries. However, with rumors of a new Nintendo Switch (Switch 2) on the horizon, it might finally be capable of running larger games such as “Shadows”, “Valhalla”, and “Odyssey”.
