Gamer’s Mom Draws Pokemon Based Only on Their Descriptions

A gamer’s mom is impressively drawing Pokémon designs – even though she’s never played the games! She’s relying solely on descriptions from the Bulbapedia website to create each drawing, and the results are surprisingly good despite the challenge.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. Over the years, fans have celebrated in creative ways, using their skills to recreate or reimagine Pokémon designs. With each new generation introducing a wealth of new creatures, there’s always plenty of inspiration, though older generations remain popular thanks to their long history.

Pokemon Fan’s Mom Draws Designs Using Only Bulbapedia Descriptions

The Instagram account pok.emum features artwork created by a woman who’s a talented artist, but completely new to Pokémon. Her child, a Pokémon fan, challenges her to draw different Pokémon solely from the descriptions found on Bulbapedia – without ever seeing what they actually look like! It’s fascinating to see her interpretations, and the account shares both her artwork and the original descriptions. The user also points out the differences between the drawings and the official designs, which is really fun. As of now, she’s created 228 Pokémon designs, and it’s a mystery how each one is chosen.

Even though she’s unfamiliar with Pokémon, her artwork often closely resembles the original designs. Simple Pokémon like Dugtrio and Ditto are particularly well-captured, which makes sense given their straightforward appearances. The descriptions don’t offer much room for misinterpretation with these simpler designs, unlike more complicated Pokémon. When her artwork does differ, she puts her own creative spin on things – her Pawmi resembles a capybara, and her Empoleon is exceptionally cheerful, both being standout examples.

Pok.emum began creating this artwork over three years ago and has consistently produced about one piece per week. Remarkably, the art style has stayed the same throughout, and it will be exciting to see if she decides to create art for any of the new Pokemon designs in Pokemon Winds and Waves.

The Pokémon franchise is still incredibly popular, and fans have a lot to anticipate in the coming year. We can expect continued updates and support for games like Pokémon Go and Pokémon TCG Pocket, and possibly more content for the well-received Pokopia. Looking ahead, the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves in 2027 will begin Generation 10, a significant milestone for the series.
