Gamers Won’t Want to Hit the Snooze Button for These Two Games on March 5

Video games are already having a great year, and there’s still a lot to look forward to in 2026. March is shaping up to be a particularly busy month for gamers, with several major releases on the horizon. While games like Resident Evil Requiem and GTA 6 are generating a lot of buzz, two upcoming titles, Marathon and Pokemon Pokopia, are quickly gaining attention and could be surprise hits when they launch.

As a gamer, I’m already super excited for some of the big releases planned for 2026, like Code Vein 2, Mewgenics, Nioh 3, the newest Yakuza titles, and a reimagining of Dragon Quest 7. But honestly, some of the smaller games have really surprised me – I’ve been loving MIO: Memories in Orbit, Cristol: Theater of Idols, and Pathologic 3. What’s really bothering me though, is that Marathon and Pokemon Pokopia – both from huge developers and franchises – aren’t getting much buzz at all, especially since they’re coming out on March 5th! I really hope more people check them out.

March 5 is Going to Be a Huge Day for Two Games, But They Might Be Flying Under Players’ Radars

Bungie’s Marathon Drops Players into Tau Ceti IV on March 5

Since its announcement in 2023, the development of Marathon has faced a lot of challenges. As the first new game in the series in over 25 years, and a departure into the extraction shooter genre, many Destiny fans weren’t excited, feeling it was either doomed to fail or that Bungie should focus on existing games like Destiny 2 or even begin work on Destiny 3. Concerns grew after controversies surrounding copied artwork and a lackluster first playtest in early 2025. With the game now delayed until 2026, many players have understandably lost interest.

Early looks at the game Marathon show it’s improved significantly since the first test version, and it’s obvious Bungie listened to player feedback. Recent playtests have generated a lot of excitement, and the gameplay footage Bungie has released is promising. With positive previews and a public beta coming soon, Marathon could surprise those who weren’t initially impressed, potentially becoming another hit like ARC Raiders.

Pokemon Pokopia Could Be a Sleeper Hit for Cozy Game Fans

Get ready for a lot of exciting news about Pokémon! With the 30th anniversary approaching, a big presentation is planned for February 27th. While many fans expect the announcement of Pokémon Wind and Wave as the next generation and rumors suggest Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will come to Nintendo Switch, a particularly interesting new Pokémon game is also on the way. Pokémon Pokopia is a unique cozy life-sim game, blending the popular gameplay of titles like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing with the familiar Pokémon creatures we all love.

When Pokemon Pokopia was first announced during a Nintendo Direct in September 2025, many casual Pokemon fans didn’t think much of it. It seemed like a simple, cute spin-off – you play as a Ditto that turns into a human and learns moves from other Pokemon, which sounded a bit strange. However, early previews suggest Pokopia might be a surprisingly complex and engaging game, and both Pokemon fans and fans of cozy games should take notice. The game already features a larger Pokedex than Legends: Z-A, and reports claim it’s the biggest spin-off title in the entire Pokemon franchise. All signs point to Pokopia being a standout release for the Switch 2 this year, and it deserves attention even with any big announcements on Pokemon Day.
