- Mastering different stances in combat adds depth and strategy, enhancing player engagement with unique gameplay experiences.
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of combat systems in video games. But let me tell you, dear reader, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of mastering the intricacies of a well-designed stance system.
In most hit video games, the combat systems are enjoyable and keep players hooked as they defeat numerous adversaries. Developers creatively modify these combat experiences to prevent monotony, using elements such as distinctive combos, diverse weapon options, exclusive enemies, and awe-inspiring boss battles.
An effective way to rephrase the given text in a natural and easy-to-understand manner could be:
1 Yakuza 0
Kiryu’s Stances: Brawler, Rush, Beast, Dragon Of Dojima | Majima’s Stances: Thug, Dancer, Slugger, Mad Dog Of Shimano
For those eagerly anticipating the Yakuza series, the extensive collection of games presented an intimidating challenge. Thankfully, RGG Studio wisely chose to create a prequel titled Yakuza 0, allowing players to delve into the backstories of Kiryu and Majima as they transform into hardened yakuza members. This character development is enjoyable for both newcomers and veterans, but what truly distinguishes Yakuza 0 is the overhauled combat system.
As a longtime fan of the Yakuza series, I can’t help but be impressed by the thoughtful design choices made by the game developers. With Kiryu and Majima, both characters being past their prime, the team came up with an ingenious solution to keep us engaged and excited.
2 Ghost Of Tsushima
Stances: Stone, Water, Wind, Moon, Ghost
For those seeking a video game experience filled with breathtaking beauty and visual allure, Ghost of Tsushima is not to be missed. Although its open-world offerings may not stand out, the captivating combat system allows players to embody their inner samurai warrior, wielding a sword with precision as they fend off Mongol invaders attempting to conquer Tsushima Island.
Jin initiates the game with the Stone Posture, and adversaries, particularly Mongol leaders, must be defeated to gain access to further postures. The initial posture is effective against Swordsmen. Enemies armed with shields can be eliminated using the Water Posture. Players have an edge over spearmen with the Wind Posture. Lastly, the Moon Posture allows players to take down robust adversaries in a grandiose manner. Moreover, triumphing in a duel against General Temuge grants access to the Ghost Posture, an extraordinary posture that enables instant elimination of enemies or inflicting substantial damage on stronger opponents.
3 Nioh 2
Stances: Low, Mid, High
Nioh is an impressive Souls-like game worth playing, but it had areas that needed adjustment. Nioh 2 effectively resolved these issues. For instance, the Living Weapon mechanic was harmonized with Yokai Shift, new weapon abilities were introduced to enhance player experience, and level design underwent significant enhancement. Fans of Nioh’s stance system will be glad to know it remains a key feature in the sequel.
As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of adapting to different situations in the game world. In my early days, I favored low stances for their simplicity and agility. They allowed me to dodge enemy attacks with ease and land quick, effective strikes.
4 Furi
Stances: Spark, Storm, Star
As a dedicated gamer, I can tell you that Furi is a relentless boss rush game that leaves no room for error. Except for the tutorial battle, each and every confrontation in this game puts my skills to the test, challenging me to hone my reflexes and adapt to new phases. Let me make it clear: Furi isn’t messing around. For those who crave an even greater challenge, Furier Mode is there to offer a more intense take on each boss battle. And just when I thought I had finally conquered Furi, The Game Bakers surprised us all with the addition of a female Rider in the DLC – talk about keeping things fresh!
The Onnamusha Rider, feminine equivalent of her male counterpart, shares similar story elements but offers distinct gameplay experiences. Unlike the conventional Rider, she boasts the ability to alternate between Storm and Spark stances during combat against her captors. Players seeking agility and self-healing through parries are advised to employ the Spark stance initially before transitioning to the Storm stance for maximum damage infliction upon enemy weaknesses. Additionally, players can accumulate a special bar to activate the Star stance, an extremely potent combat mode that operates under a time-limited effect, which can be efficiently charged in the Spark stance.
5 The Witcher
Stances: Strong, Fast, Group
Many individuals have become familiar with Geralt’s rough allure and monster-slaying skills primarily due to the exceptional attributes of the third installment, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” Unfortunately, this is often the extent of their exposure to the series. While “The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings” offers a smoother entry than its predecessor, enthusiasts of the series’ captivating narratives should consider trying out the initial game despite its more antiquated mechanics.
As a fan of this game, I can tell you that getting into the combat may feel challenging at first, but with practice and preparation, such as taking some time to meditate before engaging in battle, you’ll be able to handle even the toughest enemies without much effort. Geralt, our protagonist, has a few different fighting styles up his sleeve. He can employ the Strong style against larger, slower enemies, switch to the Fast style when facing quicker foes, and use the Group style to take out multiple adversaries all at once. This system of switching stances adds an exciting element to the combat and keeps me engaged throughout the game.
