According to a recent announcement, Gamescom, the largest gaming exposition globally, will continue to take place in Cologne moving forward. This decision is supported by a new cooperative agreement, which includes backing from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Cologne has been hosting Gamescom since 2009, and during this time, it has grown into an incredibly significant event.
Year after year, the collaboration among all parties associated with Koelnmesse has demonstrated consistent success.
Not Going Anywhere
15 years strong in Cologne, it’s clear that Gamescom isn’t vanishing from the scene anytime soon. Last year, the German event attracted 335,000 visitors, including our team at TopMob. This time around, we’re making a return with a full-fledged presence, so be on the lookout for us!
In the statement released by the Koelnmesse team, it was explained:
The pairing of Cologne and Gamescom is an ideal fit – a relationship that has consistently demonstrated success throughout the years.
As a gamer, I’ve been part of the incredible journey that transformed Gamescom into the biggest and most impactful gaming event globally. With each passing year, we’ve broken new ground, shattering records along the way. This extended long-term contract is a testament to our thriving partnership and mutual success.
We can collaborate to broaden and enrich Gamescom in Cologne, along with affiliate events like Gamescom Asia, Gamescom LATAM, Devcom, and Gamescom LAN. Our goal is to transform it into a global celebration, showcasing diverse forms of popular culture from around the world.
The dedication to continuously expand Gamescom is a joint endeavor among the Germany Games Industry Association, Koelnmesse, and the City of Cologne. By signing a new agreement, the local government of Cologne and the region of North Rhine-Westphalia have promised their backing and extended financial resources for the upcoming years.
Cologne’s mayor, Henriette Reker, said:
Cologne continues to be where Gamescom takes place, which is great news as this event significantly boosts our city’s economy and that of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Boosting the local economy is achieved by attracting hundreds of thousands of international visitors annually, providing jobs and reinforcing Cologne’s status as one of Europe’s prime industrial hubs. I’m confident that Gamescom will also thrive given its location in a vibrant media creative center like Cologne.
At Gamescom 2025, events will run from August 20th through August 24th, and the Opening Night Live event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19th.
