GameStop Issues Statement on Pokemon Shiny Legendary Event Controversy

After releasing a second set of codes for the special Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, GameStop explained that The Pokemon Company (TPCi) decided how many codes each store received. GameStop also said they’re still trying to get more codes to players until the distribution event finishes on October 15th.

Currently, the only way to get Shiny Koraidon in *Pokemon Violet* and Shiny Miraidon in *Pokemon Scarlet* is through a special distribution event, as these Legendary Pokemon are normally unavailable in their shiny forms. The event is happening at stores like GameStop and EB Games in the US and Canada. However, the event has caused frustration in the US because GameStop stores quickly ran out of the necessary codes, and some have been resold online at inflated prices by resellers.

GameStop Says Code Limits Were Imposed By Pokemon

Following criticism from players about how codes were distributed for the Shiny Legendary event in *Pokemon Scarlet and Violet*, GameStop explained its role. They stated that each store initially received around 50 codes, with another 50 distributed starting October 4th. While the first set of codes were given out on special cards, the second round used codes printed on receipts. GameStop emphasized that the limited number of codes wasn’t their decision, but a restriction set by The Pokemon Company, as other stores outside the US didn’t have the same limits. They assured players they would continue working with The Pokemon Company to distribute more codes until the event ends on October 15th, but each customer could only receive one.

Currently, The Pokémon Company hasn’t publicly addressed GameStop’s recent announcement. Initial reactions to GameStop’s message were varied – some Pokémon trainers wondered about code availability at each store, while others praised the retailer for addressing the situation. Many fans have also asked The Pokémon Company to respond to GameStop’s statements and consider using online events to distribute codes and prevent people from reselling them at inflated prices.

Fans haven’t been happy with *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet* recently, due to disagreements about the different legendary Pokémon and a problem with the current special raid events. It’s unclear how The Pokémon Company will react to a recent post from GameStop.
