Gears of War: Reloaded Coming to Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation 5 This Summer

According to whispers suggesting a PlayStation debut for the Gears of War series this year, it has now been officially confirmed – directly from the Xbox Wire.

On August 26th, 2025, the updated version of Gears of War titled Gears of War: Reloaded will become available for multiple platforms including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. This remaster is an accurate reimagining of the original Gears of War game that was launched on the Xbox 360 in 2006.

The game will retail for $39.99 across all platforms, and it’s set to launch day one on both Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, you’ll receive a complimentary upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded.

2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the Gears of War franchise, and Mike Crump, head of developer The Coalition, is taking a moment to consider its significance. He spoke about the tales told, bonds formed, and incredible experiences shared over the years. With Gears of War: Reloaded, they aim to invite more players than ever before into this world.

Sumo Interactive and Disbelief are partnering with The Coalition to develop Gears of War: Reloaded.

Everything To Expect In Gears of War: Reloaded

Crump and his Xbox team aim to let novices to the acclaimed third-person shooter series fully appreciate what makes it so popular. To achieve this, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will offer all post-release content at no extra charge, including the additional Campaign Act, all multiplayer maps and game modes, as well as a complete set of characters and cosmetics.

Not only that, but since Gears of War has always been about multiplayer, whether you’re playing competitively or teaming up with a friend, The Coalition ensures the experience continues seamlessly. This means cross-play is available across all platforms without needing a Microsoft account.

The team also announced the following performance benchmarks you can expect:

  • 4K resolution
  • 60 FPS in Campaign
  • 120 FPS in Multiplayer
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
  • 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
  • 4K assets and remastered textures
  • Enhanced post-processing visual effects
  • Improved shadows and reflections
  • Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
  • Zero loading screens during the Campaign

It seems that I’m as eager as you are to dive once more into the universe of Gears of War, approaching the arrival of E-Day. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the remaining installments in the trilogy to receive the same level of care.
