Gege Akutami Explains The New Alien Races In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Each new chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is building excitement, and the series is shaping up to be fantastic. The introduction of aliens early on did give some fans pause, as it’s a risky move to add a completely new element like that to an established story. It was understandable that people weren’t sure how it would fit in.

After giving the “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo” story arc a chance, it’s clear that Gege Akutami is delivering a fantastic narrative. The alien race central to the story, the Simurians, are surprisingly complex. They aren’t simply invaders or killers; they have their own unique culture, struggles, and reasons for their actions. Akutami has finally given fans a proper understanding of the Simurians, and the world-building in Modulo is already proving to be exceptional.

Chapter 8 of the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga revealed the backstories of Maru and Cross. Previously, fans understood the Simurians to be a people without a homeland who came to Earth hoping to live peacefully alongside humans. But they also believed that if peace wasn’t possible, the Simurians would be prepared to fight for a place on Earth.

The Simurians first appeared as antagonists in Modulo, and viewers immediately noticed. But the story has shifted to explore the Simurians’ background – their culture, origins, and a past tragedy. It’s a compelling turn of events.

Maru and Cross came from a troubled background as members of the Rumelian people. Rumelians are known for their unique appearance – they have eyes set horizontally on their foreheads and traditional facial tattoos. Their village was destroyed by the government, and any attempts to fight back failed. Eventually, they were taken in by Dura, a strong Rumelian leader who was surprisingly interested in finding a way to live in peace with the Deskunte tribe, the people who had caused them so much suffering.

Dura envisioned a canal in a remote area to help with farming, transportation, and commerce. Initially, many people resisted the idea because they viewed the Deskunte as rivals. However, Dura eventually overcame this opposition. He fostered a relationship with Maru and Cross, hoping to build peaceful relations, and ultimately, the Deskunte learned to live alongside them.

The Deskunte are a horned race with a single, vertical eye in the middle of their forehead. The Simurians are divided into two main groups: the Rumelians and the Deskunte. There’s also a creature called the Kalyan, which surprisingly only accepts the Rumelians. It’s currently unknown if any Kalyans are among the 50,000 Simurians looking for a new home.
