Despite finishing nearly two years ago, Jujutsu Kaisen remains incredibly popular worldwide. Created by Gege Akutami, the story concluded with the intense Shinjuku Showdown arc, featuring massive battles. The arc saw Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, reach his full power and Gojo Satoru fight against him, ultimately leading to a final showdown with the series’ protagonist, Yuji Itadori. While the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen was acceptable, many fans felt it could have been better. It became apparent towards the end that the author was struggling with health issues, which likely contributed to the rushed feeling of the conclusion.
After eight years of the hugely popular Jujutsu Kaisen, the story is beginning to reveal its conclusion. This is happening through JJK Modulo, a new manga series that continues the original narrative. Many fans believe this new series provides a satisfying and definitive ending for JJK.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending Saw The Defeat Of Sukuna
The initial conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen offered some satisfaction to viewers. The story reached a climax with Ryomen Sukuna possessing Megumi’s body, and Gojo Satoru escaping from the Prison Realm. This led to an epic battle – the largest in the series – between the two. Though the fight was closely matched, Sukuna ultimately won, defeating Gojo due to his superior Jujutsu skills. Immediately after, Sukuna was ambushed by all the remaining sorcerers, but it was Yuji Itadori who finally defeated him by significantly improving his own Jujutsu abilities, bringing the conflict to a definitive end.
It was a hard-fought battle, but Yuji Itadori ultimately defeated Ryomen Sukuna with the help of his fellow sorcerers. With Sukuna gone for good, Yuji and his friends resolved to honor Gojo Satoru’s memory and positively shape the future of Jujutsu. The Jujutsu world continued to thrive, finally free from Sukuna’s threat.

The ending of Jujutsu Kaisen faced some criticism. One issue was the idea of a merger, which was introduced but never revisited. More significantly, the story didn’t address the continued existence of cursed spirits, a central problem throughout the series that many characters aimed to solve. Originally, this issue remained unresolved, but the author, Gege Akutami, has now clarified it in a recent update, 68 years after the story’s initial events, much to the relief of fans.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s New Ending Will End Cursed Spirits Forever
As Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo approaches its conclusion, it’s becoming clear that the author, Gege Akutami, plans to resolve the issue of cursed spirits. These spirits primarily appear in Japan because of leaked cursed energy from ordinary people. While everyone in Japan possesses cursed energy, only some are able to control it as sorcerers. The energy that isn’t controlled builds up, creating these negative entities. In Jujutsu Kaisen, there are only two ways to truly destroy cursed spirits:
- The first way is to completely erase cursed energy from everyone, and as a result, no cursed energy leakage would occur.
- The second way is to turn everyone in Japan into a sorcerer and in that case, they can learn to completely control their cursed energy. Once again, a leakage would be greatly limited, which would mean no cursed spirits would be born.
I always found Yuki Tsukumo’s motivations fascinating in Jujutsu Kaisen. After seeing someone like Toji Fushiguro, who was born without any cursed energy, she really believed people could be free from it altogether. It was the opposite of what Kenjaku wanted, though – he was all about everyone becoming a sorcerer and maximizing their cursed energy. It felt like a really interesting conflict that the original series never fully explored. Now, it looks like JJK: Modulo is revisiting that idea, which I’m excited to see unfold.
It is a grave sin. However, I will still do it. — Yuji Itadori

As the series reaches its peak, it becomes evident that Maru is determined to eliminate cursed spirits, aiming to resolve the conflict between humans and Simurians once and for all. Maru’s unique abilities are central to permanently stopping cursed energy. By combining the powers of Chaos and Harmony, he was able to enter the realm between life and death and learn Mahito’s technique. Furthermore, Maru possesses exceptionally pure cursed energy obtained from Naunax, and he also has access to Yuta Okkotsu’s ring, which holds a massive amount of cursed energy within it.
Maru used the Mul and the Cursed Energy Ring to perform Idle Transfiguration across all of Japan, effectively changing the souls of everyone. This allowed Maru to drastically reduce the amount of cursed energy within people, freeing them from its influence as much as possible. While cursed energy can’t be completely eliminated, as Yuji Itadori noted, Maru reduced it to the point where very few cursed spirits would be born each year from the remaining leakage. This means cursed spirits would largely disappear in the future, as neither humans nor the Simurians living in Japan would possess significant cursed energy. Maru intentionally left experienced sorcerers from both groups unaffected, to avoid disrupting their lives and abilities.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Will Change The Sorcerer Story Forever
The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo project has begun removing cursed energy from everyone in Japan. They’ve also altered the appearance of Cursed Spirits so they won’t be mistaken for Kalyans. This process will be finished over the next two chapters, addressing a major complaint fans had with the original series.
This will create an entirely new Jujutsu Society and prevent the birth of humans with normal cursed energy, drastically reducing the number of cursed spirits. Both humans and Simurians will be pleased with this change, finally allowing them to live together peacefully. This will resolve all conflicts between the two groups and free Tokyo from the threat of cursed spirits after many years. The Simurians will integrate throughout Japan, living alongside humans, bringing this incredible story to a satisfying conclusion.
