Summary
- Season 3 of One Punch Man may showcase Genos gaining a significant upgrade to face the Monster Association.
- Genos’ pattern of upgrades always failing may be foreshadowing his eventual success.
- Genos’ progression in power may eventually surpass even Saitama’s.
In the world of One Punch Man, Genos, Saitama’s dedicated apprentice, often finds himself in unfortunate situations within the series. Time and again, he receives impressive-looking upgrades that leave audiences excited, only for them to fail immediately afterward despite the hype surrounding them. Nevertheless, the show skillfully maintains our hope that perhaps this upgrade will be the one that allows Genos to match the current danger level.
Instead of subtly hinting at Saitama’s potential tough battle through Genos, could the upcoming season of One Punch Man maintain the trend of Genos’ underdevelopment or will it be the one where he finally receives an upgrade that ensures his survival in major confrontations?
Genos Is Set Up to Be a Power Player
One Punch Man Constantly Teases Genos’ Potential

Genos’ Starting Hero Rank | S Rank 17 |
Genos’ Current Hero Rank (End of Season 2) | S Rank 14 |
In the captivating world of One Punch Man, I found myself embodying Genos – a character who, unlike many protagonists in other shows, starts off as an ordinary cyborg with a heart-wrenching past. But what makes him extraordinary is his unrelenting drive to become stronger, taking on ever-increasing threats that would leave other heroes quivering.
At first, I struggled to keep up with the quick and agile Mosquito Girl, but as the seasons unfolded, I found myself squaring off against titanic foes, like Elder Centipede – a formidable dragon-level adversary who even survived a confrontation with Blast, the highest-ranked S-class hero! The journey has been nothing short of exhilarating, and I can’t wait to see what challenges lie ahead in my pursuit of becoming a true hero.
Regardless of past attempts to position Saitama for the punch, every improvement Genos has made seems designed to correct earlier shortcomings. In his initial clash with Deep Sea King in Season 1, Genos lost an arm due to a lapse in vigilance. Yet, he rectifies this issue against Garou in Season 2 as his upgraded arm is now capable of attacking even when detached from his body.
In a similar vein, during the battle with Elder Centipede at the end of Season 2, Genos was split in two, much like when he fought Mosquito Girl. But this time, his body underwent an upgrade that allowed it to reassemble itself and exploit the division for tactical advantage. Although Saitama ultimately had to conclude the battle, Genos’ development past his former vulnerabilities and his role as Saitama’s student suggest that the series could be positioning him to eventually triumph independently.
What Upgrade Could Be Coming in Season 3?
Spoilers from the ongoing Manga and Webcomic

In the upcoming Season 3 of “One Punch Man”, it appears that the storyline will delve deeper into the Monster Association, a topic hinted at during Season 2. Following his battle with Elder Centipede, which concluded Season 2, Genos undergoes another upgrade in the manga, transforming him into a form resembling a demon, with spiky arms and armor reminiscent of Guts from “Berserk”. This new form gives Genos the ability to face the leader of the Monster Association, demonstrating a significant boost in his power.
The amount and frequency of appearance for this upgrade, given the speed of the upcoming season, remains uncertain. There’s a possibility that the storyline involving the Monster Association might prolong, resulting in us seeing just one upgrade from Genos.
If Genos Keeps Improving, He Will Be One of the Strongest Characters
A continually stronger Genos means a possible inevitability

As Genos continues to receive powerful enhancements, it appears increasingly likely that there will be no more characters left who can defeat him. Eventually, Genos might reach a stage where he becomes invincible against any threats that could previously break him.
In Season 3 (possibly), Genos’ upgrade, resembling a demon, could showcase his capacity to tackle a threat as formidable as a dragon without assistance. In the comic, he displays this by swiftly overpowering Forest King, a monster of dragon-level strength that even Tanktop Master, an elite S-rank hero, was unable to defeat. There’s a chance Genos’ power could one day surpass his master Saitama.
One Punch Man can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
