The newly formed Gentle Mates Call of Duty League team surprised everyone by winning the $50,000 Black Ops 7 tournament hosted by Kaysan. The Kaysan Showdown VIII was a great start to the Black Ops 7 season, featuring four of the most promising teams expected to compete throughout the year.
So, FaZe Vegas, LA Thieves, OpTic Texas, and Gentle Mates were all competing, but honestly, I was shocked when Gentle Mates actually won! It was a real surprise to see them take home the trophy – digitally, of course.
An Unpredictable Season
Most people didn’t expect Gentle Mates to win, considering their competition. They were up against OpTic Texas – the team that had won the championship three years in a row – LA Thieves, who had a lot of financial support and a star-studded lineup, and FaZe Vegas, a recently revamped team with a lot of promise.
Just recently, Gentle Mates announced its team for the 2026 Call of Duty League season, and based on Kaysan’s strong performance in recent tournaments, expectations for the team are very high.
Highlights from the online tournament showed an incredibly skilled Gentle Mates team dominating with the quick gameplay of Black Ops 7. The game itself, released last month, hasn’t been universally praised, but Gentle Mates clearly thrived in its fast-paced environment.

Gentle Mates is fully committed to its Call of Duty League team for the next few years, through the 2026 season. The organization had a disappointing debut last year after recently entering the COD League by taking over the LAG team and changing its branding.
Signing new players, updating team jerseys, and securing sponsorships – including partnerships with Scuf controllers – all demonstrate Gentle Mates’ commitment to Call of Duty esports.
