As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the talented minds at 11 Bit Studios are cooking up something extraordinary! They’ve got another installment of Frostpunk lined up for 2027, and there’s another project on the horizon for 2029. It’s been a tough ride for them lately, even with the phenomenal success of their steampunk post-apocalyptic city-builder game, but their leadership remains optimistic about the coming years. It’s clear that 11 Bit Studios has some major moves planned in the near future, and I can hardly wait to see what they’ll bring to the gaming table!
11 Bit Studios has an action-packed schedule for the rest of the year. After multiple setbacks, “Frostpunk 2” will finally debut on consoles in Summer 2025, with a significant content update scheduled for May 8th and the “Spectrum” DLC due out in Fall. Additionally, there are two more DLCs planned for the game: one expected in late 2025 and another sometime in 2026. This is a massive amount of work for the indie studio, but it’s just a taste of their long-term ambitions.
11 Bit Studios, as reported by the Polish Press Agency (noted by Gamepressure), has announced plans to launch another game within the Frostpunk universe around 2027. The president, Przemysław Marszał, didn’t specify whether it would be a follow-up or something along the lines of an expansion, but did confirm that work on this project has already begun. Marszał also mentioned that this decision is part of their larger strategy to develop a wider variety of games while still taking advantage of short-term profitable opportunities, all aimed at adapting to shifting gaming market conditions. Given the success of Frostpunk 2, which covered its production costs in just four days, it’s understandable why they might see a third installment as an opportunity for quick returns.
A New Frostpunk Game Could Release in 2027, with a Bigger Release Coming in 2029
Alongside the upcoming Frostpunk title, 11 Bit Studios is also developing a larger game, slated for release in 2029. Marszał didn’t specify whether this will be a new intellectual property or connected to one of their previous creations, but it appears likely that it’s the former due to the limited information available at present. This unnamed project isn’t the only game not related to Frostpunk that 11 Bit Studios is working on. The Alters will launch on Xbox Game Pass on June 13, 2025, and Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is aiming for a Summer 2025 release as well.
These recent updates follow a challenging period for the studio. Towards the end of 2024, 11 Bit Studios had to reduce their workforce and abandon an unnamed project code-named “Project 8.” In this latest press statement, Marszał admitted that the studio’s financial performance in 2024 did not meet expectations. However, he remains optimistic about the upcoming year, 2025.
