Ghost Of Tsushima Gets Surprise Steam Update

I’m so excited! Ghost of Tsushima is now officially verified to play great on the Steam Deck! The recent Patch 8 update not only made it work better, but they also did something really cool. They’ve separated the main story from the online multiplayer, and now Legends mode is a free download for anyone who already owns the game. That’s a fantastic bonus!

Released in July 2020, Ghost of Tsushima is often seen as the final exclusive game for the PlayStation 4, launching shortly before the PS5 became available. The game is set in 13th-century Japan, during the first Mongol invasion, and follows Jin Sakai, a samurai who will do whatever it takes to protect Tsushima Island. In August 2021, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut came out on both PS4 and PS5, with the PS5 version taking advantage of features like haptic feedback and quicker loading. The Director’s Cut included a new single-player expansion set on Iki Island, which players could access after completing a portion of the main game. This summer, to celebrate its fifth anniversary, Ghost of Tsushima offered players free, region-specific PlayStation Network avatars.

A recent update to Ghost of Tsushima on Steam has brought several improvements for players. Patch 8 now confirms the game is playable on the Steam Deck, though this verification applies only to the main story mode. The update also includes a graphics preset specifically for the Steam Deck and various user interface enhancements. Notably, the single-player campaign and the multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, have been separated. Owners of the Director’s Cut can now download Legends as a free DLC. While a PlayStation Network account is needed to play Legends, the single-player portion of the game does not require one.

Update 8 improves performance in Ghost of Tsushima on PC, including for Steam Deck users, by upgrading to the latest version of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology. Players with AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, like the RX 9060 XT, can now enable FSR 4 through their AMD drivers. Once enabled, you’ll see the updated FSR setting reflected in the game’s menus and launcher.

Even though its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, has gained a lot of attention, Ghost of Tsushima is still considered one of Sucker Punch’s greatest games. It’s currently unknown how well Ghost of Tsushima will run on the Steam Deck compared to other games.
