Ghost of Yotei Actress Has Emotional Reaction to State of Play Announcement, But It’s For a Different Game

Summary

  • Erika Ishii will be voicing the lead character Atsu in Ghost of Yotei.
  • Atsu will make her debut in Astro Bot’s July 2025 update, before the release of Ghost of Yotei in October.
  • Ishii had an emotional reaction to Atsu being in Astro Bot.

Erika Ishii, an actress known for lending her voice to games like Apex Legends, The Last of Us Part 2, Mortal Kombat 1 (as Sektor), and several gaming-based web shows such as Critical Role, had a strong emotional response during this week’s PlayStation State of Play livestream. Surprisingly, it wasn’t for one of her own games. Instead, she was moved by the upcoming game, Ghost of Yotei, in which she will voice the new lead character Atsu – a ronin on a mission to avenge the murder of her family at the hands of a mysterious group known as the Yotei Six.

In the spirit of Ghost of Tsushima’s open-world gameplay and samurai combat, which contributed significantly to its success, Ghost of Yotei will also feature new weapons, a bounty system for Atsu to earn money by eliminating high-value targets, and increased narrative choices compared to the previous game. Sucker Punch hinted at a more detailed reveal of Ghost of Yotei during their presentation at the June 4 PlayStation State of Play livestream, with plans to share more in July.

Even though Erika Ishii wasn’t present live during the PlayStation State of Play broadcast, they tuned in and were taken aback when an unexpected announcement from another game was made. They shared their surprise on TikTok, cheering loudly when it was disclosed that Atsu would be joining Astro Bot in its July 2025 update. Ishii had declared Astro Bot as their top game of 2024 and had finished all its content before learning that Atsu would be incorporated into it soon.

Atsu’s Actor Is Excited For Her To Be In Astro Bot

In Astro Bot, you’ll find guest appearances from numerous PlayStation characters, such as Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. With its engaging gameplay and tribute to PlayStation’s rich gaming legacy, Astro Bot was a massive success when it debuted in September 2023 and went on to win several accolades at The Game Awards 2024, including the prestigious Game of the Year award.

Since the Ghost of Yotei doesn’t arrive until October 2, Astro Bot’s July 2025 update will mark Atsu’s first gaming experience, and Erika Ishii couldn’t be more thrilled to contribute to a game she adores so much. Moreover, Astro Bot’s upcoming update will include five fresh challenge levels to test players’ platforming abilities, as well as PlayStation cameos. Additionally, an updated Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense controller is slated for release later this year.
