However, Atsu is the one who forced him to wear a mask forever. During the Night of the Burning Tree, she slashed his face with her father’s sword. Their base is hidden away in the freezing, snowy Teshio Ridge, and they use all sorts of complicated codes and puzzles to keep their hideouts and training grounds secret. From what I’ve heard, they fight with a Kusarigama and even use poison gas, so they’re shaping up to be the hardest fight in the first part of *Ghost of Yotei*. But honestly, things aren’t as simple as they seem. As you get to know the Kitsune’s story, Atsu is going to be faced with something she really isn’t ready for.
Who Are the Spider & the Dragon in Ghost of Yotei?
An Inseparable Pair, a Weakening Bond:
In *Ghost of Yotei*, The Spider and the Dragon are immediately established as a duo. They are not just siblings, but also the children of Lord Saito. Though Lord Saito initially placed them in powerful roles, he now seems to be losing confidence in their capabilities.
The two brothers prefer using guns because they’re more reliable than fighting with their bare hands. As the story progresses, it’s revealed they are the reason Atsu believes her brother Jubei is deceased. Despite being brothers, they have very different personalities. When I started reading *Ghost of Yotei*, Lord Saito seemed like he was just leading a bunch of rough, outlaw types. But as the story unfolded, I realized the Yotei Six were so much more! It turns out Lord Saito used to be the head of the entire Saito Clan, but the Shogun kicked him out and exiled him. He fled to the wild, lawless lands of Ezo in the north, and now he’s driven by a desire for revenge – not just against the Shogun, but against everyone who betrayed him and took his position as Clan Leader.
Lord Saito’s arrival at Atsu’s home that night stemmed from his belief that the family needed to be punished as a warning to others. He didn’t realize that this strong action would ultimately lead to his own downfall. However, Lord Saito is a complex character; the game repeatedly offers him chances to kill Atsu, but he consistently refuses. Though he never shows regret, it’s possible he secretly believes Atsu deserves fairness, or at least the opportunity for it.
