Ghost Of Yōtei Gets A Day One Balancing Patch For Hardcore Mode

Only one day remains until Ghost of Yōtei is fully released, and it looks like Sucker Punch is diligently refining the game right up to the wire. We’ve just learned that a balancing patch is coming soon.

According to a new report from Sony (as noted by IGN), the highly anticipated open-world game taking place in Feudal Japan will receive a day-one update. This patch will bring the game to the latest version: 1.006.

Based on the latest updates, the game includes several important improvements and tweaks, primarily aimed at boosting performance and making the game more stable.

Honestly, what really stood out to me was that the devs are actually asking us players – even those with physical copies of the game – to make sure we have version 1.006 installed *before* we start playing for the first time. So, I’m guessing it’s super important to have a smooth experience right from the get-go. It seems like they’ve worked hard on this patch and want everyone to enjoy the game as intended. Check out the patch notes here if you’re curious. I’m definitely downloading it now!

Ghost Of Yōtei Patch 1.006 Notes

One of the most frustrating things for players starting a new, high-quality game is encountering crashes or visual problems with the game world – and, in my opinion, the most important fixes in this update focus on resolving those issues.

I also found it interesting that the update includes balance changes for weapons and charms, and even for Lethal Difficulty (the hardcore mode in Ghost of Yōtei). This indicates the changes go beyond just improving performance or visuals; they actually have a significant impact on how the game plays.

Here’s a rundown of the performance and stability improvements included in game version 1.006:

  • Multiple improvements to environmental rendering performance.
  • Fixed issues affecting Ray Tracing Mode lighting consistency and performance.
  • Changes to improve performance and stability while in photomode.
  • Various improvements to performance in missions with high character counts.
  • Resolved uncommon crashes when playing or idling for long periods of time.
  • Fixed rare crashes related to loading certain saves.
  • Various balance adjustments to weapons and charms, especially related to late-game content.
  • Various balance adjustments and bug fixes related to Lethal difficulty.

In addition to that, the patch notes also describe numerous bug fixes and minor improvements. These changes appear to be focused on creating the incredibly immersive experience players expect from games made by Sucker Punch.

As a gamer, I can really get a sense of how much detail the developers are aiming for just by reading through their notes. They’re covering everything – little things like making sure the NPCs’ faces and voices feel right, tweaking the UI and how it works during fights and when you’re buying stuff, and even how smoothly characters draw their weapons and walk away. It’s all about making the game look and feel polished, with perfect footwork and natural body language.

Beyond that, we’ve also worked on decreasing unwanted tutorial pop-ups, enhanced the visual quality of erosion and mountain range details (I personally think this improvement is quite significant!), refined how deep snow blends into the environment, and corrected the horse’s behavior to prevent it from interfering with missions or cutscenes.

Ghost of Yōtei is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
