Summary
- Ubisoft may reveal the next Ghost Recon installment at Summer Game Fest, shifting away from past Forward showcases.
- Industry insider Detective Seeds hints at the next game being far in development, suggesting an announcement in the near future.
- Ubisoft’s rumored decision to avoid a Forward presentation may be due to a lack of upcoming titles, making SGF the best host for a potential game reveal.
A knowledgeable source within the gaming industry speculates that Ubisoft may unveil the next installment of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon during the Summer Game Fest live showcase. Once a flagship series for Ubisoft in the 2000s and early 2010s, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon has seen less attention since the release of Breakpoint in 2019, which was met with disappointment. Ubisoft had previously announced a free-to-play PvP live service game called Ghost Recon: Frontlines in 2021, but this project was later canceled a few months afterwards.
The Summer Game Fest is rapidly approaching, and as always, there’s a lot to look forward to! At the moment, we have three confirmed events with more to be announced in the upcoming days and weeks before it all starts on June 6. Kicking things off will be Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest showcase. Immediately after, Day of the Devs, the annual indie event led by Double Fine Productions’ Tim Schafer, will take place. Two days later, on June 8, Xbox is set to follow with another spectacular event much like its show last year. Intriguingly, following the conclusion of Xbox’s showcase, Obsidian Entertainment’s second major RPG for 2025, “The Outer Worlds 2,” will have a dedicated 30-minute Direct.
It appears that Ubisoft might be altering their Summer Game Fest plans compared to previous years. A gaming insider known as Detective Seeds has expressed doubts about Ubisoft hosting its own live Ubisoft Forward event this year. Instead, it’s speculated that Ubisoft could reveal the upcoming Ghost Recon game on Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest stage. Whether Seeds is hinting at a return of Ghost Recon: Frontlines or a completely new PvP-less title isn’t fully clear, but they suggest that the game is currently in heavy development.
New Ghost Recon Game Could Be Revealed at Summer Game Fest Showcase
Currently, it appears that Ubisoft finds itself in an unusual position. Their major releases such as Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows have already been unveiled, leaving no clear signs of upcoming titles like Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed 4, or Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remakes within the next year. Given this scenario, it might be inappropriate for Ubisoft to host an entire Ubisoft Forward showcase this summer. Instead of hosting a live event to announce just one major new game, it would make more sense to share potential news about Ghost Recon on Keighley’s SGF stage. As for the highly anticipated Far Cry 7, Detective Seeds hasn’t shared much information, suggesting that this open-world FPS might not be ready for public unveiling yet, which aligns with the rumors of Ubisoft deciding against hosting a Forward.
It’s uncertain if Detective Seeds’ predictions are correct, considering Ubisoft might still be preparing a Forward event featuring several of the mentioned games that have yet to be unveiled. The Summer Game Fest commences on June 6, with its showcase starting at 5 PM Eastern Time. If Ubisoft does announce a Ubi Forward, it’s expected to happen the day after Xbox’s showcase, following the usual schedule for Summer Game Fest events in past years.
