Glen Schofield Says EA Turned Down Dead Space 4 Earlier This Year

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours of terror and exhilaration in the Dead Space universe, this news leaves me both heartbroken and hopeful. Heartbroken because it seems that we might not get to return to the dark, claustrophobic corridors of the USG Ishimura anytime soon, but hopeful because the creative minds behind these masterpieces are still eager to bring us a Dead Space 4.

According to Glen Schofield, the creative mind behind Dead Space, the team attempted to propose a new installment of Dead Space earlier in the current year, but the publishing company showed no enthusiasm for it.

A while back, we heard the news through a live broadcast by Dan Allen Gaming. During this broadcast, he had a conversation with the creators of Dead Space: Glen Schofield, Bret Robbins, and Christopher Stone.

The trio genuinely attempted to propose Dead Space 4, as stated by Schofield. He further clarified that this was done during this very year [when they pitched Dead Space 4]. To which, Allen asked, “And did they refuse?

Schofield responded by saying, ‘To be clear, we didn’t delve too far; they simply expressed disinterest at this time, thanked us, and so on. Regardless, we respected their viewpoint.’ He then added, ‘We have some concepts,’ indicating that the group would revisit Dead Space 4 in the future.

2013 saw the launch of the most recent installment in the Dead Space series, titled Dead Space 3. However, the original Dead Space game got a makeover by the Motive Studio as late as 2022.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for a new horror-survival title that could fill the void left by the Dead Space IP when it ended in 2023. Excitedly, I dived into The Callisto Protocol, a game developed by Schofield and his team at Striking Distance Studios, released in 2022. While many fans considered it a spiritual successor to Dead Space, unfortunately, the game didn’t sell as well as Krafton had hoped, initially aiming for five million units but later revising their expectations down to two million.

Regarding the possibility of a new Dead Space game, that’s uncertain at this point. However, it appears that its developers are open to transferring to EA should the project receive approval.
