Go Gun-Hee’s Heart: The Shocking Truth Behind His Decline!

Summary

  • Go Gun-Hee was once the strongest S-rank hunter in Korea but had to retire due to aging and heart problems.
  • Despite his limitations, Go Gun-Hee becomes the chairman of the Hunter’s Association to assist in overseeing hunter activities.

In the world of Solo Leveling, being a hunter is challenging, but it’s even more difficult for a hunter like Go Gun-Hee, who can only watch as the younger generation battles on the frontlines. If his body hadn’t deteriorated and his heart didn’t hurt, there’s no doubt that Go Gun-Hee would wreak havoc among the monsters appearing through the Gates, and probably also in the fourth attempt to recapture Jeju Island from the relentless ants.

In the world of “Solo Leveling,” Gun-Hee, also known as Chairman, stands out among all hunters in an extraordinary way. It’s not just because he was once the strongest in Korea or due to his early retirement, but rather his unusual age. Despite having a robust physique and an unyielding presence, Chairman Go Gun-Hee is over 80 years old. With time taking its toll on him, he acknowledges that his days are numbered. Regrettably, for someone like him, who is not immortal, there’s no escape from the passage of time.

Go Gun-Hee’s Glory Days

Korea’s Former Strongest S-Rank Hunter

Back in my prime, I, Go Gun-Hee, was renowned as the mightiest hunter Korea had ever seen. I was not just an S-rank among S-ranks, but also hailed as The Sky Above the Skies. My reputation is so high that even a fellow hunter like Sung Jin-Woo admires me profoundly for my unparalleled skills and enduring strength. Yet, despite my longing to continue my hunting journey, my body simply can’t match up anymore. Reluctantly, retirement has become an unwelcome reality I must face in this series.

Luckily, Gun-Hee takes up the role of Chairman for the Hunters Association of Korea as the sole means to aid the hunters. In this capacity, he oversees their activities, keeps watch for the emergence of gates, and communicates with other nations. This crucial position, which relies solely on Gun-Hee’s abilities, renders him indispensable in the eyes of many.

“I’ve always wanted to fight alongside young hunters like yourself.”—Go Gun-Hee to Sung Jin-Woo

Despite Gun-Hee’s deteriorating physical condition, he remains full of fighting spirit. A common hunter who dares to challenge him or measure their strength would be unwise to engage in a one-on-one duel—except for S-rank hunters or Sung Jin-Woo, whose abilities surpass human comprehension.

The Condition of Go Gun-Hee’s Heart

Even S-Rank Hunters Have Limits

Beyond Gun-Hee’s aging physique, his persistent heart condition poses a significant worry, not just for his spouse, but also for fellow hunters who hold him in personal regard. It seems that Gun-Hee’s heart continues to tremor uncontrollably, beating tens of thousands of times, causing him to recognize he is approaching his limit. In truth, this condition has been present for a couple of years, and neither he nor the doctors have found any solution. Magic said to heal fails to help him, leaving him with no alternative but to accept his destiny and retire gracefully.

“You’ve come for me, thank you very much.”—Go Gun-Hee to Sung Jin-Woo

The physicians advise Gun-Hee to leave his position in the Hunter’s Association for peace of mind, body, and soul, yet he stubbornly refuses to step down. They caution him that disregarding their advice could lead to fatal consequences within six months, but he can’t bear the thought of retiring and watching others fight from home. Despite the doctors’ warning two years ago, Gun-Hee is still alive, but he senses his condition deteriorating further.

Did Gun-Hee’s Heart Stop Beating?

His Fate Revealed

Regrettably, in the main storyline of Solo Leveling, Gun-Hee suffers a heartbreaking fate. His health deteriorates due to the severe injuries he endures during combat with a formidable Monarch who sought his death. If only the Monarch hadn’t sealed Gun-Hee’s office within a dimensional rift, Jin-Woo might have detected Gun-Hee’s peril earlier, allowing him an opportunity to step in and potentially save his life. As the battle with the Monarch ensued, the latter taunted Gun-Hee, referring to his weakening body as a fragile vessel destined to shatter eventually.

Later on, Sung Jin-Woo showed up to aid Gun-Hee, but it was too late – his condition was beyond help, not even Sung’s magical concoctions or Beru’s healing skills could mend his wounds. As despair gripped him, Sung considered employing the Elixir of Life, but Gun-Hee prevented him from doing so. At that juncture, Gun-Hee had come to terms with his impending end. He further understood that the sole reason his heart kept beating until then was destined for a hunter like Sung Jin-Woo. In the ensuing days, the tragic news of Gun-Hee’s passing made headlines, attributing his death to a fatal stab wound in the chest.

“Please remain on the side of humans.”—Go Gun-Hee to Sung Jin-Woo

In essence, being an S-rank in Solo Leveling doesn’t make Go Gun-Hee invincible because his body, despite its power, is still human, vulnerable to the halt of a beating heart at any instant. Unfortunately, he can no longer maintain the prodigious abilities he once wielded effortlessly. However, Gun-Hee’s influence endures within hunters such as Woo Jin-Chul and Sung Jin-Woo, who embody the same unyielding determination to safeguard the world.
