‘Go Play Fortnite’: OpTic Methodz Gives Advice to Young Players Grinding COD

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice that the Call of Duty esports scene seems to be going through a rough patch lately. Despite Activision’s efforts to revamp things over the past year or two, there’s no denying that we’ve seen a drop in prize pool sizes and viewer numbers, and Black Ops 6 is unfortunately struggling right now.

In a recent live broadcast, some of Optic’s prominent figures such as Scump, Methodz, and Crimsix gathered near a cozy fireplace for a discussion on the current landscape of Call of Duty esports.

‘You Can Actually Make Money’

Scump made a revealing statement, albeit one that wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, when he emphasized that if he were starting his career as an esports professional today, he wouldn’t choose Call of Duty as the game to focus on.

At the age of 18 (or 16), if I were embarking on a career in competitive gaming, Call of Duty wouldn’t be something I’d consider focusing on.

Methodz agreed with Scump’s viewpoint, emphasizing that the minimum age requirement in the Call of Duty League might be an obstacle that could be hindering young prodigies from securing a place within the CDL.

I’ve been saying to go play Fortnite.

I’m saying, listen bro – unfortunately… This is crazy to me, the age limit…

Despite being 18 as the limit – I was quite skilled at 14. There are undoubtedly many 14 to 18-year-olds who might impress others but can’t play yet. Yet, I often wonder, if you’re 15, what on earth possesses you to spend your time playing Call of Duty?

Go play Fortnite, you can actually make money in that.

In the present setup, it’s mandatory for professional Call of Duty players to wait until they reach 18 years old before joining the Call of Duty League. Contrastingly, this age requirement isn’t consistent across all esports games. For illustration, CS:GO’s prodigy, known as ‘donk’, recently celebrated his 18th birthday and has been making a name for himself over the past year by showcasing exceptional skills and earning impressive accolades in his rookie season.
