God of War Ragnarok Mod That Removed PSN Account Requirement Taken Down

As a long-time gamer who has navigated through various regional restrictions and online account requirements, I can understand the modder’s decision to remove the God of War Ragnarok PSN Account mod from public access. The fear of legal action is not an unfounded concern in our community, especially when dealing with tech giants like Sony.

I was really excited about the God of War Ragnarok PC mod that eliminated the PlayStation Network (PSN) account necessity, but unfortunately, it’s no longer available online.

In the wake of early news about the mod, just a few days later, the hosting platform, NexusMods, shared a statement from its creator. The creator mentioned that they took it down because it attracted “an excessive amount of interest,” causing them concern over potential legal issues.

After discussing with the creator of the mod, we can verify that its removal was a result of their personal choice, made following widespread popularity – even earning attention from major news sources – in order to prevent potential actions by Sony.

iArtoriasUA suggested taking precautions by keeping it out of public view, as a precaution against any potential risks from Sony, even though the project had never touched any memory-related aspects of their products. It’s always safer to err on the side of caution.

I regret that it turned out this way, but due to the uncertainty, I couldn’t take the risk. I hope you can comprehend my position.

God of War Ragnarok is a single-player game, similar to many first-party PlayStation games, which necessitates a PSN account for gameplay. This restriction has limited the markets where players can purchase and play the game, as some regions lack the capacity to create PSN Accounts, even though they may have access to Steam.

PlayStation has necessitated a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for several games they’ve released via Steam. They attempted to impose this requirement on Helldivers two months after its release, but this decision was reversed due to strong public criticism. However, it’s worth noting that single-player games like Horizon Zero Dawn or Horizon Forbidden West don’t demand a PSN account on PC. Interestingly, the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn will require a PSN account on PC in the future.
