God of War Shadow Drops New Game and Confirms Greek Trilogy Remake

Sony surprised everyone at its recent PlayStation State of Play by immediately releasing a new God of War game and officially announcing the remake of the original Greek Trilogy. God of War is a hugely popular franchise for Sony, making it a fitting finale to the February 2026 event.

Santa Monica Studio has consistently delivered exceptional God of War games. The earlier titles are famous for their exciting action and grand scale, while the recent games have been lauded for their moving stories and visceral combat. Though many expect a sequel to God of War Ragnarok, the studio recently announced two new God of War projects that will instead explore Kratos’s history.

God of War Greek Trilogy & Sons of Sparta Officially Announced

Plus, Santa Monica Studio has officially begun work on a remake of the original God of War Greek Trilogy. TC Carson, who originally voiced Kratos, confirmed these projects. While the remake is in its early stages, we don’t have many details yet. It’s unclear if each of the three games will be remade individually, or if the story will be combined into a single, larger game. It’s likely the remake will feature updated graphics, and the team is probably considering changing the gameplay to match the over-the-shoulder perspective of the 2018 God of War and Ragnarok.

God of War: Sons of Sparta is available immediately and costs $29.99 for the standard version or $39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes extra in-game items, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, and a Kratos avatar for PlayStation Network.

The long-awaited 2D action platformer, officially titled Sons of Sparta, lets players experience a young Kratos training with his brother Deimos. The game focuses on one of Kratos’ first adventures, where he’ll mainly fight with a spear and shield, and collect helpful artifacts along the way. Developed by Mega Cat Studios, Sons of Sparta features a retro 16-bit pixel art style, which is a unique direction for the series that some fans may find surprising. Interestingly, the game is rated T for Teen, a lower rating than most God of War titles – likely due to the art style lessening the impact of the violence.

TC Carson is returning as the voice of Kratos in the remake of the original God of War Greek trilogy. He’s also narrating Sons of Sparta, which will likely appeal to longtime fans of the series.
