Back in 2022, Amazon officially announced the God of War television series, but two years later, the project was put on hold due to some key personnel changes. Fast forward to now, and both Amazon and Sony have brought in Ronald D. Moore to head this exciting endeavor. Known for his exceptional work on shows such as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica, and Outlander, I can hardly contain my excitement for what he’ll bring to God of War!
Last year at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, during a panel discussion, Moore shared some intriguing details about his collaboration on the series with Cory Barlog, the creative director of Santa Monica Studio. Barlog has been deeply immersed in the God of War video game franchise since its very beginning, so it’s safe to say that this partnership is shaping up to be a powerful combination!
God of War Begins Filming in Early 2026
After several months since unveiling the script for the small-screen adaptation of God of War, the project has made significant progress in its development. According to Nexus Point News, filming for the God of War TV series is expected to commence in March 2026 in Vancouver. Furthermore, auditions for the God of War series are currently underway, which suggests that fans may soon learn who will play iconic characters such as Kratos and Atreus. Unlike Amazon’s God of War TV series, which will primarily focus on the renowned Norse saga, it is not anticipated to be a direct adaptation of the 2018 reboot, which occurs years after Kratos’ adventure through Ancient Greece.
According to the storyline of the 2018’s “God of War” game, it is likely that other Norse gods such as Baldr, Freyja, and Mimir will make an appearance in the upcoming Amazon Prime TV series. However, it’s not just the Amazon Prime series that Santa Monica Studio may be working on related to God of War. In August 2025, a job posting for a combat designer suggested that another potential God of War video game project might be underway. At this point, Santa Monica Studio has not disclosed their plans for the God of War video game series.
