Godzilla and Monster Hunter Crossover For New Attraction (But There’s a Catch)

Japan boasts numerous unique attractions that can’t be found elsewhere. For instance, Universal Studios Japan offers several rides exclusive to the country, themed around its most beloved franchises. A distinctive example is Nijigen no Mori, or Two-Dimensional Forest, a theme park located solely on Awaji Island, Hyogo, Japan. Debuting in July 2017, this park has gained recognition for its attractions centered on popular Japanese brands such as Naruto, Dragon Quest, and Godzilla. The park showcases numerous statues and life-sized replicas of characters from these franchises. Within the park stands a life-size Godzilla statue, modeled after the monster’s appearance in Shin Godzilla.

Visitors are invited to take part in the ongoing “Godzilla Incerception Operation,” a sequence of missions designed to neutralize Godzilla, which is a permanent fixture in the park. However, Nijigen no Mori also offers temporary attractions for promotional collaborations. Lately, they’ve introduced a “Monster Hunter” attraction, inspired by the highly successful video game series created by Capcom. Nijigen no Mori has unveiled a new collaboration between Godzilla and “Monster Hunter,” with the park offering special rewards to those who engage in both attractions. Participants stand a chance to receive a commemorative item featuring an exclusive design.

I find myself in the midst of an exhilarating world where the action-adventure role-playing game franchise, known as Monster Hunter, reigns supreme. In this captivating realm, I, as a player, embark on a thrilling journey centered around slaying towering monsters. This series enjoys immense popularity in Japan, with the latest installment, Monster Hunter Rise, managing to sell approximately 8 million copies within three days of its release.

Monster Hunter is renowned for its extensive collaborations with other franchises, such as Zoids, Demon Slayer, and Attack on Titan, to name a few. However, the upcoming Nijigen no Mori crossover between Godzilla and Monster Hunter will mark the first significant partnership between these two iconic series, featuring titanic creatures that captivate fans worldwide.

In my experience, I stumbled upon an enticing attraction titled “Monster Hunter: The Field,” nestled within Nijigen no Mori back in 2024. However, a brief hiatus occurred in January 2025 before it reemerged on the 20th of June. As a visitor, I found myself immersed in the role of an aspiring hunter at the “Awaji Gathering Hub.”

During my visit, I embarked on various training missions scattered across the park. These tasks were categorized as either “field exploration” or “large monster subjugation.” Field exploration allowed me to traverse through the landscapes and gather items, while monster subjugation involved battling monsters using one of four provided weapons.

To undertake the large monster subjugation missions, a tracking belt was essential equipment. This unique attraction offered an engaging blend of exploration and combat that made for an unforgettable experience!

The operation titled “Godzilla Inception” has been a significant highlight at Nijigen no Mori ever since its launch in October 2020. Visitors are given the opportunity to engage with and capture memories through a lifelike statue of “Shin Godzilla”. The core experience involves ziplining around this massive figure while completing various tasks. In addition, players can participate in additional missions that include shooting games and augmented reality mystery-solving activities. A specialized Godzilla Museum is available within the park’s grounds, offering fans a chance to explore memorabilia from iconic Godzilla films. The combined event featuring “Godzilla” and “Monster Hunter” will take place from September 13th until it concludes on November 3rd, coinciding with “Godzilla Day”.

Are you looking forward to the collaboration? Wishing similar collaborations could extend to other regions, such as the United States? Share your thoughts below!
