Steam is widely regarded as one of the top gaming platforms in terms of its extensive offerings. If you’re searching for a particular type of game, you’ll likely find numerous choices to choose from; in fact, you might even become overwhelmed by the variety. However, it’s important to note that while most games added to Steam’s store often remain available, some games are removed each month and can no longer be purchased. This could be due to various reasons such as insufficient support or resources, or an expired license that prevents the publisher from earning further profits.
In August 2025, several notable games will be taken down from Steam, making this month no less extraordinary. While they may not be among the greatest of all time, they’re still worthy of mention as you might want to grab them while you can before they disappear entirely.

Crossfire: Legion

Three years have flown by since the launch of Crossfire: Legion, a strategy game I had high hopes for in the realm of modern RTS multiplayer. Sadly, it’s being taken down from Steam’s library, which is disappointing given its untapped potential.
The genre is largely ruled by timeless classics like StarCraft, but Crossfire: Legion offered a refreshing alternative when it debuted in 2022. However, the demo didn’t receive the warmest welcome, and the full game followed suit with a lukewarm critical response. Despite my enthusiasm, it never surpassed the 100-player mark on Steam.
Blackbird Interactive has assured players that they can still enjoy the multiplayer modes even after the removal of Crossfire: Legion from Steam, known as delisting. However, it’s important to note that the longevity of this aspect is uncertain due to its historically low activity levels. On a positive note, the game does offer a single-player campaign for those who prefer playing alone.
Splitgate (Delisted & Shutdown)
Removal Date: August 2025 (Exact Date Not Confirmed)
In a change of events, not only is Splitgate being removed from circulation but also permanently closed down in August 2025. This decision comes as 1047 Games intends to devote all their attention and resources towards the highly debated sequel, implying that you won’t be able to enjoy this Halo-like multiplayer shooter for much longer. However, Splitgate 2 will still be accessible in its beta phase.
In essence, the game titled “Splitgate” has experienced a rather challenging journey since it debuted in early access in 2019. Its unique feature of incorporating portals attracted players due to the strategic, creative, and placement aspects they offered. The shooting mechanics were also generally satisfactory, albeit not always flawless.
However, as time went on, the game seemed to lose traction and had difficulty maintaining full lobbies, resulting in many matches being populated with bots instead of human players. This decline in player activity was so significant that during its last few years, the active player base shrank to just a few hundred.
Project Cars 3
Removal Date: August 24, 2025
It’s worth noting that the popular game, Project Cars 3, was taken down from Steam in August.
Bandai Namco has verified that the online features for the game “Project Cars 3” will stay active until February 24, 2026. After this date, you’ll still be able to play its career mode.
