Gran Turismo 7 Has a Big New Update Coming Soon

Key Takeaways

  • Gran Turismo 7 is getting another update on the week of November 18, most likely before Friday, November 22.
  • The new content drop will feature five vehicles, which will almost certainly include the Porsche Mission X Concept and Ford Escort RS Cosworth.
  • The Suzuki Jimny Sierra and a Porsche 992 model might be part of the package as well, together with one classic racing car.

As a dedicated Gran Turismo fan with over two decades of racing under my virtual belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming update to Gran Turismo 7! The latest teaser from Kazunori Yamauchi has me buzzing like a classic sports car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

On the week of November 18th, it’s been announced that Gran Turismo 7 is receiving another update. This upcoming patch in November 2023 will enlarge the variety of cars available within Gran Turismo 7.

In March 2022, the seventh installment in Polyphony Digital’s prolonged racing simulator series, titled “Gran Turismo 7,” was launched for both PS4 and PS5 consoles. Since then, the Japanese studio has been consistently releasing updates for this game, with fresh patches appearing approximately every month. Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, often hints at upcoming updates on Twitter by sharing images of mystery cars that will be incorporated into these updates.

On November 15, six weeks after the release of update 1.52 for Gran Turismo 7, Yamauchi shared another hint on Friday. The picture he posted shows five vehicle outlines, a blend of SUVs, classic sports cars, supercars, and everyday models. Yamauchi hinted that the next game update is scheduled for release during the week starting November 18. Given that Polyphony Digital typically skips weekend updates, it’s likely that the new content will be unveiled no later than Friday, November 22.

Two More Porsche Models Are Seemingly Coming to Gran Turismo 7

As an enthusiastic follower, I’m thrilled to share that GTPlanet has pointed out potential contenders for roughly half of the new cars joining the Gran Turismo 7 lineup, with two Porsche models among them. The candidates most likely to be accurate are the Porsche Mission X Concept and Ford Escort RS Cosworth. The former is a 2023 electric hypercar, known for its unique, sleek design, while the latter is a special edition of the fifth-generation European Escort, characterized by its distinctive rear wing. Given that the Escort RS Cosworth’s silhouette, as depicted by Yamauchi, seems to include a sunroof, it seems likely that Gran Turismo 7 will feature the road version rather than the rally variant. The specific year of this upcoming addition remains undetermined, as the Escort RS Cosworth was produced from various years culminating in 1996, and its road models share a similar appearance.

All Potential New Cars Coming in Gran Turismo 7’s November 2024 Update

  • 2025 Suzuki Jimny Sierra
  • Ford Escort RS Cosworth
  • Porsche 992 Turbo or Turbo S
  • Porsche Mission X Concept
  • A classic race car: Mercedes-Benz W196 Monoposto, Maserati 250F, Ferrari 500 F2, or something similar-looking

Among the other figures, one seems reminiscent of the Suzuki Jimny Sierra, a model expected in 2025. Earlier, the standard Suzuki Jimny was incorporated into the game during update 1.42 of Gran Turismo 7, released towards the end of January 2024. The teaser image also features a silhouette that resembles the Porsche 992, a vehicle from the latest generation of the legendary 911 series. This could potentially be either the 992 Turbo or Turbo S, neither of which have been included in the game as of yet.

The primary enigma in the image is a vehicle appearing around nine o’clock. Despite its resemblance to a vintage sports car, this doesn’t significantly reduce potential candidates. GTPlanet proposes it could be the Mercedes-Benz W196 Monoposto, but its outline also aligns with the general shape of the Maserati 250F, Ferrari 500 F2, and numerous other ’50s era vehicles.
