Great Developers Who Have Created More Than 20 Games

As a long-time gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall of many gaming giants, I can attest to the remarkable comeback Sega made after hitting rock bottom. From humble beginnings to amassing an impressive library of critically acclaimed games like the iconic Like a Dragon series, Sega has truly proven its resilience in the ever-evolving world of video games.

Over time, creating video games has grown increasingly complex. To continually exceed technical milestones, developers often dedicate numerous years to crafting their games, pouring their passion and creativity into each title from the very start. This makes it quite an impressive feat for successful game developers to demonstrate their skills by producing a collection of outstanding games that are delightful to experience.

Creating multiple games effectively demands a robust organizational setup, a team brimming with skilled professionals, and strict deadlines to prevent prolonged development. The illustrious past of certain video game creators boasts some of the most iconic video games, which have been industry leaders for decades due to their popular offerings in the mainstream gaming market.

5 Nintendo EPD

One of the most cherished video game creators ever, Nintendo, dared to venture into the Western market when many other companies were hesitant after Atari’s misfortune led to a video game crash. Their courageous move to bring their hardware and software to the West sparked a global gaming revival that solidified their position as one of the most outstanding Publishers/Developers, still delighting fans with innovative games in today’s era.

Since 2015, the Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development (Nintendo EPD) division has taken charge of developing Nintendo’s first-party games. Although it was only established a few years before my writing, Nintendo EPD already boasts an impressive reputation for producing well-crafted games that challenge players with innovative gameplay mechanics. Even in developing what appeared to be a conventional open-world game like “Breath of the Wild,” Nintendo EPD demonstrated its commitment to pushing boundaries instead of relying on familiar and proven gameplay styles. Each Nintendo game is delightful to play, and it’s hard to believe that this company has been active for over a century.

4 Ubisoft Montreal

At one point, Ubisoft’s video games were highly praised as the epitome of game design excellence. However, a series of questionable decisions and overconfidence have caused the company to embody many aspects that people dislike about the gaming industry. Although open-world games are popular, Ubisoft’s efforts to cater to the masses have resulted in games lacking innovation or being filled with unnecessary elements, which only serve as a means for players to spend extended periods of time on these games.

This publishing company boasts a number of well-known game developers among its ranks, one of which is Ubisoft Montreal, a name synonymous with gaming for many enthusiasts. Since 1997, this developer has established itself as a powerhouse in the realm of open-world games, producing some of the finest examples ever created. The release of Far Cry 3 in 2012 left numerous fans awestruck, while titles such as Watch Dogs 2 and For Honor stand out among Ubisoft’s most impressive works.

In the realm of video game development, Sega is a highly recognized player. At one point, this corporation engaged in fierce competition with Nintendo over their respective hardware, sparking a rivalry where the creators of Mario and Sonic found themselves pitted against each other as they strived for supremacy. However, Sega began to falter in staying competitive, leading them to shift focus towards game creation and development instead. Despite a period of low morale, Sega quickly bounced back.

Swiftly, Sega built an extensive collection of renowned games for gamers to enjoy. The organization restructured, with CS1 being one of its busiest divisions that includes RGG studio, a team created specifically to focus on the Like a Dragon series (interspersed with some Super Monkey Ball titles). Originally known as Yakuza, this series has gained traction in the West as some of the top action-packed experiences. These games represent just a small fraction of Sega’s impressive video game library, which has solidified its place among the leading publishers in the gaming industry.

2 Capcom Production Studio 4/Division 1

From the instant home consoles started gaining traction in the Western market again, Capcom quickly rose to prominence as one of the leading video game developers. Prior to this shift, the company primarily gained recognition for its outstanding fighting games. However, over time, Capcom expanded into a variety of creative titles across different genres, with series like Ace Attorney and Resident Evil serving as prime illustrations. Notably, these games were produced by a separate team that excelled in developing narrative-driven games featuring intense gameplay mechanics.

Most of Capcom’s well-known series were previously developed by Studio 4, but following a reorganization, the Games Development Division 1 was established. Except for the bumpy debut of the ambitious project, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Division 1 has had an impressive run, delivering some of the most memorable modern Capcom games such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Devil May Cry 5.

The studio’s legacy is well-known among fans, having initially burst onto the scene with the popular games “Crash Bandicoot” and “Jak & Daxter.” As console generations progressed, they shifted towards creating more mature gaming experiences.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the exceptional writing that made Uncharted shine among the video game greats. Yet, it was The Last of Us that truly showcased the potency of emotional, cinematic storytelling.
