In the beginning of Grounded 2, you’ll find yourself with four distinct characters to choose from when starting the game. However, there’s not much guidance about what each choice means, which might make it challenging for everyone, especially newcomers to the survival crafting series by Obsidian. If you’ve played Grounded 1, you may recognize some of these teens, but for those who are new to this franchise, the selection process could be more difficult.
Initially in the game, it’s unclear whether choosing this option will have long-term consequences, temporary ones, or if it’s even reversible at a later stage. Those eager to start off strategically sound will desire as much information as possible to make an informed choice.
Which Character Should You Pick in Grounded 2?
In Grounded 2, similar to the last game, choosing a character doesn’t alter the game mechanics. Instead, each of the characters – Max, Willow, Pete, and Hoops – will have the same gaming experience. The main distinctions between these characters lie in their individual personalities and voiceovers.
Each character in Grounded 2 possesses distinct personality traits that significantly influence their dialogue during gameplay. For instance, players inclined towards a scientifically-inclined protagonist might opt for Pete, while those who favor a more indifferent character may choose Max. Max is known for being relaxed and carefree, whereas Willow is known for her wit and sarcasm. Pete, on the other hand, has a knack for research and knowledge, and Hoops demonstrates leadership qualities as a sports enthusiast.
Just like in Grounded 1, these teen characters will provide a lively, ongoing commentary on their surroundings, filled with witty remarks and the occasional humorous one-liner. The rate of this conversation is increased compared to the first game, making it even more crucial for your choices.
On the Character Selection Screen, players can preview a character’s voice by choosing their avatar and hearing the opening dialogue. Although it doesn’t provide a full understanding, it offers a helpful preview of what to expect.
In the sequel of “Grounded 2“, a span of two years has elapsed since the initial story. This time leap is demonstrated through the maturity in the characters’ voices, signifying their growth over this period.
Can You Change Characters in Grounded 2?

In Grounded 2, once a decision is made, it’s final and can’t be undone – even if you start a fresh game. Also, your friends, when joining your game, won’t have the same teen character as you; they must choose from the other three available options. Obsidian Entertainment designed it this way to maximize immersion in the gameplay experience.
